  • I think out of all the freaks given positions in the regime, this asshole will do the most harm, kill the most people and cause the most suffering over the longest time span -- and that's saying a lot.

  • I think it's ironic that the alternatives to Android (graphene, calyx) only fully work on Google phones.

  • Rage, rage against the dying of the grift, ya pigs. Your days are numbered.

  • Reporter in video describes the scene like nothing very interesting is happening, like it's all perfectly normal and mundane to zip-tie the hands of people in wheelchairs behind their back or pulled into unnatural and painful-looking positions, all the while repeating the phrase "big beautiful bill" over and over with a straight face. Our "news media" is nothing but propaganda and apologia for the regime.

  • I wouldn't call it 'hardcore' not to use crap like that. I've never used Reddit, Twitter instagram or any of that (with one brief exception). Only the Fediverse. Made my mastodon account in 2018 and that's all I used until I made this Lemmy account last year.

The exception was: back about 15 years or so ago, some people talked me into making a facebook account because they had a group on there. I reluctantly made the account and read their posts for a while but it was just stupid meaningless tripe, so I never posted anything on there and after a while I deleted the account. During that time it was apparently hijacked because I logged on and someone had made a completely weird profile on it. Don't know how they did it but I changed the password and removed the stuff which seemed to work, that's when I submitted the deletion request to FB though who knows what happened to it after that.

edit: I should add that I do use Youtube (mainly via Freetube but not always) and I do read reddit posts when I search for things and it comes up as a relevant result.

  • Wonder where that idea came from? Sounds like some oligarchs want to buy up some of that sweet, isolated BLM acreage to construct their own personal towns on and bring in servants and a personal army to live there and take care of them, safe from revolting peasants.

  • Unfortunately change requires repeated and/or sustained protests over time, so we'll have to see. But this was a good sign that it may be possible. If we go to war with Iran, a whole new cohort will be added to the numbers.

  • I keep seeing estimates of everything from that 4-6 million up to 11 million or even 13 million.

I also saw estimates of 5 million for the Hands Off protests and these were definitely a lot bigger than that (certainly at least twice as big at my location), so either the Hands Off one was over-estimated or the 4-5 million for No Kings is underestimated.

  • I hope someone snatches him up ...

An unfortunate choice of words, that. But yes, we hope he quickly finds a new and better job where he can speak freely.

  • Early '90's. At first only the government and universities had access to the internet, before the www/world wide web existed. I went to a university before the general public had access via ISPs (which were just dial-up for a long time), so I could get onto it. At first there were just things like Archie and gopher, and a text email thing (pine, I think it was).

When dial-up became available to the general public, very few people used it at first. I used Compuserve for a while with a 300 baud modem where you could read the text as it slowly came across. But very quickly AOL started up and sent out millions of CDs so more and more people signed up on that--I never used AOL, though. Once I had dial-up at home I used IRC to chat online. That was in the mid 90's. Good times.

  • The servants have to go in and out. And even if they're all loyal, there's always new hires or temps, not to mention delivery and service vehicles going in and out.

  • Oooh, those poor billionaires, being expected to pay for the infrastructure they need for their private island. Outrageous! It's the peons who are supposed to pay!

  • I could be. I was mostly thinking about what the GOP would do, but I expect most Dems will support it, since they passed pretty much the same bill in 2020.

  • Mangolini asked Netanyahu not to do this, but he went ahead and did it anyway, banking on it putting the US in a position to be forced to get involved in this war. Mangolini is conflicted because he wants to get the approval of all the dictators, especially when they treat him badly (just like his daddy). But plenty of GOP/MAGA are against getting into wars so Mangolini doesn't want to anger them. It's a divisive issue for the GOP and maga base because it's support Israel vs wait but not go to war for them.

My guess is it should have enough GOP support to pass in the Senate (I know Rand Paul and at least a couple other repubs would support it, but other than Paul who is willing to defy trump, do the others have the guts to vote for it if Boss says no?). As for the House magats I assume they'll just vote however Daddy tells them to. I'd think he would like to have an excuse like this for not joining netanyahu's war.

  • Yep, and Trump has never been anywhere near that low or ever will be, no matter what he does. It's a cult of true believers. Only a tiny fraction of his voters have had misgivings since the 2nd term started, not enough to sway his approval ratings by more than a percentage point. IOW anyone who would stop supporting him because of his criminal behavior already did. The remainder are all in on what he's doing and love him. The fact that it's such a high percentage of our population is what bothers me as much as anything else about this.

  • Perfectly stated and I gotta quote you to another doomer in another thread.

  • I'll just respond by quoting someone from another thread replying to someone like you: "Keep your doomer bullshit to yourself, shut the fuck up, and get out of the way."
