  • Mike johnson photobombing in from the side, trying to be included.

  • It wouldn't even have to be someone who looks like Luigi. They got the screen shots of Luigi from the hostel and found him based on the pictures, but they haven't presented evidence that he was at the crime scene. If you look at the shooting video you can tell that the jacket worn by the killer is not the same jacket Luigi was recorded wearing at the hostel. Same with the fake ID. It only proves that was him at the hostel. They'll need to present evidence that he was at the crime scene. They say they found a water bottle nearby that can be linked to him, we'll see.

  • It seems quite plausible that when they found the backpack it also had the gun and "manifesto" (stupid to call it that but it pushes their agenda) and whatever else in it, but they kept quiet about it. They only revealed that they had found the backpack. That would allow them to arrest anyone and then claim that he had the gun, etc. on him when they found him. They'll need to prove that those things weren't in the backpack they found.

  • Another quality-of-life lowering thing caused by Walmart/Amazon that's obvious but they didn't go into, is that once Walmart and Amazon have eliminated so many local businesses, everyone is forced to shop at them. Even if we don't want to, we have nowhere else to go--we can't just boycott them and still get stuff we need.

Walmart decides what you will and won't have access to buy. They've pared down the variety of brands and offer a subset of items by those brands minimum, for their efficiency of ordering and stocking items, including groceries. Then the brands stop making the items that Walmart decided not to stock, so they're gone. There are still a few other grocery stores but most have them have merged into a few mega-grocery chains with the same issues as with Walmart.

So even if you're OK with going to Walmart your choices are limited (those of us old enough to remember things we used to be able to buy that are long gone these days may notice this more). So what it's come down to is you get what Walmart offers you, or you order it from Amazon or Temu. There are still a few places to get real things of good quality, but they're harder to find, never local stores, so you have to order online sight unseen, and of course it's an expensive and time-consuming process compared to being able to just go to the store and grab something.

  • Of course Democrats called them out on it and tried to pass an amendment to strip it out: https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2024/12/democrats-stand-up-for-trans-kids-during-senate-debate-on-military-health-care-provision/

My OP point is, stop reacting to click bait headlines in just the way they meant for you to, Actually read enough to get an understanding of what the bills are and what's in them, what happened during the process they went through, and why various people acted how they did before jumping to conclusions. Stop falling for dirty political tactics designed to keep magats in power and promote their christian nationalist agendas while keeping the rest of us fighting with each other so they can keep getting reelected.

  • Anyone who could vote and says they care about the rights of trans people better have voted for Harris or you have no standing on this issue.

  • It's called facing reality and dealing with it, which isn't nearly as much fun as mindlessly bashing oversimplified interpretations of click-bait headlines. Sure, it's nice to play the game online where you pick one issue and ignore all the other issues no matter how important they are, but in the real world you have to do the best you can do. The consequences of vetoing the bill would be huge, while one of the articles posted elsewhere in the comments here[1] talks about the number of children who could be affected and that there are very few circumstances where the provision in the bill would have an impact (e.g. it only disallows treatments that would result in sterilization, which doesn't include puberty blockers, etc.). But you're obviously not interested in seriously considering the details and practicalities of the real world situation, just enjoying railing against Biden, so have fun with that.

  • Tell us you have no idea how the government works without telling us you have no idea how the government works.

  • I wonder what would happen to someone who did a video like that except with a dummy of a CEO? I suspect the reaction would be huge amounts of screaming, condemnation, and an arrest for promoting terrorism. But this video? it's juuuust fine. Nothing will happen to her, probably not even having her video taken down.

  • God when will people stop falling for this crap, this is exactly the culture war repubs are waging. Half of them don't even give a crap about shitting on LGBTQ+, what they care about is shitting on the Dems so R's can stay in power. They put the poison pill in a bill that Biden has no choice but to sign, JUST TO GET HEADLINES LIKE THIS, so that progressives will blame Biden and the democrats instead of the magats. And you fall for it every time. Sure, sometimes you also blame the R's for actually doing the bad things, but you always blame democrats when they aren't able to stop R's from doing the bad things. You all might hate the military but we kind of need one and if we just shut it down we're leaving ourselves vulnerable. What you are doing by blaming Biden for this is like saying yeah what the rapist did was wrong but she didn't fight him off hard enough, she must have wanted it. smh

  • Ubuntu was my entry to linux as well, 19 years ago. But Ubuntu of today is not the Ubuntu of 15-19 years ago, and not in a good way.

  • When first coming from Windows, starting with Mint is the safest bet for a good transition because things will work pretty much as you expect them to, and there's a very helpful forum if you have any questions. But I always say to try several distros and Desktop Environments to see how you like them. Everyone is different and it's all a matter of preference.

I suggest that once you've got whatever distro you decided on up and running, install a virtual machine software such as Boxes (very simple) or Virtual Box (a little more complicated but with more options). Then just download various distros and make VMs for them to try them out easily. Have fun!

  • At least with this one they're only killing themselves and their own kids.

  • Reading this thread, I feel like having a nice rant:

"Waah, all our problems are caused by the boomers! They're all rich and selfish, they had the easy life and got all the money and the houses and ruined the environment while our lives were ruined!" Keep believing that and stay distracted! while the oligarchy laughs it's ass off at you.

Pay no attention to all those poor boomers who could never get a house, who are scraping to get by--those are the exceptions that prove the rule, they must have been especially lazy or stupid boomers, if they're not rich like the vast majority of boomers! Yeah, that's it.

Pay no attention to the corporations that have bought up all the housing so they can rent it to you at any price they like, that has nothing to do with housing costs--it's the boomers who were too selfish to leave you their house when they died who are to blame! Yeah, that's it.

Pay no attention to the oil companies and big corporations that control congress to keep their profits private and costs socialized so they can spew their effluent into the environment as the world burns and the ice caps melt, it's the boomers' fault! Boomers only started the environmental movement and demonstrated and pressured the government into creating the EPA, Clean Air Act, and many more, but so what, all the bad things are still their fault.

Stay distracted! Keep believing what you're told and blaming who you're told to blame as you get older and older and the boomers all die, and then enjoy how Gen B and Gen C, etc. hate you and rail against you and blame you for all their problems. Why didn't you--yes you! stop global warming? You could have, but you didn't give a fuck. You who had it so easy, living your selfish life with your fresh water and electricity and air conditioning and video games and all those nice things, while their lives were ruined? It's all your fault!

Never the oligarchs, though. Not them.

[I can also do another version of this for the right wingers, substituting immigrants for boomers].

  • Ironically, that's the same reason I don't trust LLMs.

  • I'm pretty sure all of us have given up on any boomer giving us anything anyway

That should work out since most boomers didn't get anything from their parents either.
