  • Well, if you're young enough, you could live long enough to see it recover.

  • What makes you think the stock market crashing is not his aim?

I think it's a combination of both that and stupidity, of both him and the oligarchs. Yes, they like manipulating the market and being able to buy up stock when it's down and it was working for a while there, but they didn't bargain on just how far trump would go and how much he would fuck things up. trump figured he could cow other countries they way he does Americans and since he can never admit he's wrong, he'll keep doubling down even though it's not working, causing further havoc. I don't think he believed China would retaliate with a 34% reciprocal tariff, and he's not going to listen to the oligarchs when they tell him it's time to back off. They installed into the presidency a monster they can't control

  • OK honey, go out and start your war or whatever, I'll check to see if you make the 10 o'clock news.

But stop trying to discourage the people who are actually trying to find practical ways of dealing with our current reality, actually taking steps commensurate with that and building a resistance movement, which includes protesting.

  • I'm not so sure that person is simply a "deafeatist American". Their insistence, insults, and number of posts they're putting up to discourage us from protesting tells me it's someone with an agenda, not on our side.

  • And how does not protesting help us "naive children" "gain ground"? You're concern trolling to try and discourage us from standing up for ourselves. Go away if you have nothing to contribute to defending democracy.

This is from a couple weeks ago, on why protesting ASAP is important: https://youtu.be/TxD18THltQQ

  • Gee, you sure seem to be posting a lot of replies trying to discourage us from protesting. 🤔 Hmm, I wonder why that could be?

  • They just forgot to mention the last step which is to put the result into plastic bags and put in the freezer.

  • Oh right, I forgot about that!

  • Is this how quickly people forget? Never again buy a Tesla, or Tesla stock, and never stop letting those who do know what you think of them for doing that.

  • It's no where near what his just deserts would be, but it's a start. At least it's one area where the people have a little bit of power over him. Owning a Tesla (I've always hated that he stole the inventor's name for his company) should be made anathema, unacceptable, unthinkable. We should keep up the pressure in every possible way.

  • It's still very important to take a stand and speak out. Even if that in itself is not enough, it's still necessary. Putting out this statement doesn't mean that's the only thing they're doing. When fighting for a cause you have to state your principles, call out the problems you see, and motivate others to join you in the cause.

“The nation’s scientific enterprise is being annihilated and the silence of too many of our scientific leaders is only making the ongoing catastrophe worse,” said Dr Robert Steinbrook, health research group director at Public Citizen, a consumer advocacy group. “The ‘SOS’ signal from 1,900 scientists must be a wake-up call for our leading scientific and medical organizations to show courage and speak out at this critical moment,” he said. “If scientists and scientific and medical organizations will not forcefully speak out in defense of science and public health, who will? There is no alternative.”

Responses in this thread dismissing people for speaking out is worse than doing nothing. If you aren't going to do something, at least don't disparage others for doing what they can.

  • "Sir, when you hear the shots, reach up to your ear and squeeze the little packet so the liquid smears on your ear."

    "Like this?"

    "Please don't eat it, sir."

  • If these elections do show a backlash against the Trusk regime with Dems winning in red and purple areas, NOW is the time to find, recruit and support true progressives to run in the primaries and primary the usual spineless Dem candidates from their left.

The climate is ripe for taking control of the Dem party and completely transforming it over the next few election cycles**, just like the TEA party did to the republican party. Don't sit and wait while the same old Dems easily win their primaries--challenge and replace them with better candidates who will fight for us.

** subject to continued existence of free and fair elections

  • The external player thing has never worked for me, at least when I set it to VLC, which just displays an error. I must be missing something.

Edit: thanks for the replies, next time I'll try mpv and/or haruna

  • It would be more effective to threaten sanctions if the US proceeds if the goal is it to deter them, then if it doesn't work, you impose them as punishment and a bargaining chip to get them to pull back.
