  • It's described in the article. The Dutchman who runs the registrar for Mali first started to started to store the emails sent to these invalid addresses before being overwhelmed (and probably realising the literal minefield having US government secrets is) and stopping doing that. So yes his firm was initially intercepting messages sent to the aether by spoofing invalid addresses.

  • Considering that WeChat does video and audio calls it's pretty reasonable that wechar asks permission to use the microphone. I think you've been caught up in fearmongering. China isn't going to invade Taiwan any time soon. There has been little to any real indication they would or even could. You've gotta understand that the CCP is authoritarian but no government is that competent to be keeping tabs on a random Americans conversation that they had at some point at some time who may more may not be ever visiting China. I'm not saying China is run by good people, I'm saying no government is competent enough to actually 1984 anyone in real life.

It's like the social credit system that doesn't really exist. The CCP put out a vague instruction to have a credit system based on social stuff because many Chinese people don't have banks thus don't have access to regular credit systems. Random cities and provinces came up their own systems with random rules and regulations. Then basically all of them were walked back because they were stupid and random and overbearing, and the CCP delegating their vague orders gives them plausible deniability in that they blamed the stupid systems on local government and played the good guy when they ordered them walked back.

  • So do ducks. It depends on what the animal is doing. Cows stand around and walk for miles this they are red meat. Ducks migrate 100s of miles thus are red meat. A chicken on the other hand only needs it's muscles for short flights and such and even then it's legs and thighs which support its weight all the time are considered dark meat aka approaching red meat.

  • Brandon Eich was fired because he was constantly giving money to politicians and groups that were advocating for the banning of same sex marriage. Also funding the campaign of congressman Tom McClintock, a certified piece of shit, Who denies climate change, is against LGBTQ rights, and was among the republicans trying to overturn the 2020 election.

  • How do you politically pressure them exactly? Other countries you might threaten to cut off aid or recind arms deals or refuse plane sales, etc. China doesn't rely on any of those things. In fact Boeing relies on China to buy planes to stay profitable. How are you supposed to sanction your 3rd largest trading partner which your first and second partner also relies on. The allies would either revolt or the global economy goes into depression.

  • This won't even stop LLMs, ones from countries that don't respect copyright will simply advance past the ones that are. Like a Chinese tech company could simply ignore all that, and what, is Sarah Silverman going to sue Tencent in China? Good Luck. Tiktok uses copyrighted music constantly without permission, yet YouTube Shorts had to set up a system with the publishers. All that copyright laws in their current form do is hamper basically everyone for the sake of a few large companies.

  • I mean if there is one company that took risks with their largest franchises it's Unisoft. Origins literally changed massive parts of the game, arguably even changing the genre. IMO as someone who tried to go back to some of the older games like Syndicate and Black Flag they are really dated in a lot of ways.
