  • Just to add one point to the end there, a lot of times in Windows it isn't even a file it's editing, or at least not a plain text file you could even edit manually, so it's much more obfuscated even than that.

Or it's a setting in the registry that pretty much everyone says "do not touch if you don't know what you're doing, you will break your system"... Nowhere in Linux will you be editing something that can break your install while configuring your default keyboard layout (as an example)

Also, The Frontiers Saga series by Ryk Brown is fantastic, and I think getting close to 40 books by now

  • While this is true, the flip side of that is that being a publicly traded company all but guarantees they'll be forced to make bad decisions. So, the original point still stands: more companies should do this. They may be shitty anyway, but at least they'll be shitty on their own terms and have the best chance of not being shitty.

  • Hmm ... I'm definitely not going to use RHEL for anything I'm not explicitly ordered to by my employer, but the thought of using Ansible or similar to set up my home system is interesting... I may have to give that a try, and I've got a new system I'm building

  • Yes, the difference is that instead of it being firm or soft depending on if you use cold or hot water (respectively), it has a firm side and a soft side that remains that way regardless of water temperature.

At least, that's my understanding, I've never tried a scrub mommy
