  • Name will essentially be the text after the c/ in the URL
Display Name allows extra text and will show when people browse using the Communities tab. Text in the Display Name is also searchable

example: I made a community called 'retronet'
that is the Name, which corresponds to this url: https://lemmy.sdf.org/c/retronet

the Display Name is 'retroNET - Vintage Culture/Websites/Software', which is what people see in the Community browser

  • I use chatgpt to get me pointed in the right direction and have it provide some basic boilerplate code for smaller tasks

I needed to go through a bunch of .json files and modify various elements

I was able to implement what I needed without google/documentation/stackoverflow

  • 100 million users, of what quality?

from reports it seems like a bunch of iNfLuEnCeRs, brands, misinformed and toxic assholes, etc

  • surprised that mclaren is holding position

  • Norris is going to get eaten alive

    hards make no sense

  • fastest lap graphic not working?

doesnโ€™t really matter this early but still nice to see it change throughout the race

  • I watch Maxโ€™s onboard

the car always seems poor at accelerating from low speed

  • mclaren able to stay ahead of ferrari so far

    neat

  • it was smooth for me, I went to this address:

    https://appleid.apple.com/account/manage

    • Signed in with my existing gmail Apple ID
    • clicked the Apple ID link to change my address
    • entered my @me.com address
    • grabbed the verification code from my email

and that was pretty much it, now I can sign in with my @me address for Apple ID

I didn't even need to log out on any of my devices, they display the @me address in the settings as my Apple ID instead of the gmail address

  • I literally switched my Apple ID from my gmail email address to my Apple @me.com email address today

  • Fund it with donations, open source all the technical components

reddit did both of those originally

but when they started taking private VC money they had to start making returns on that investment which spiraled into the current situation

  • I imagine "you" can't

you'd likely have to work for some marketing agency and can probably only buy user data in bulk amounts (based on region, or some other desired demographic) with a recurring business plan of course

it wouldn't be financially beneficial for these companies to sell an individual thumbprint

  • hey I got a year of peacock for like $20 that I use to watch Indycar

and I haven't seen the Mario movie yet, so this news must be for me!

  • been on Lemmy since the original blackout, haven't seen a single tiktok yet!

it was my own fault on reddit though, for some reason I used to browse r/all and it was always garbage, why did I do this myself?

  • almost happened to my cousin when we were teenagers

firecracker exploded in his hand and we all immediately went into full panic mode

luckily there was no permanent damage but I don't trust any fireworks since then

  • I was going to come in here and praise SDF but I see I'm too late

Damn you Dark Souls Remastered for taking me away from Lemmy for a bit!

I guess I'll link the FAQ for SDF here for anyone interested in learning more

and also mention that SDF runs a Mastodon and Pixelfed instance for all your federation needs
