  • There is this book called The Shadow of the Great Game written by an Indian diplomat which talks about what the British stakes were in getting India partitioned during independence.

Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, was not willing to have foreign military presence in India. The area of India close to Afghanistan and USSR was strategically important to the Brits in this constant struggle of their against the USSR. I haven't gotten far enough into the book to know what exactly they did to ensure the partition but this is the story of how Pakistan comes to have such an outsized influence in its internal affairs from Western powers.

  • Even after accepting your premise there is a huge amount of middle ground between doing nothing and nuking civilian centres.

  • Jesus Christ that magazine cover is something else

  • If you are a global south country and this hag is knocking at your door then you are probably doing something right.

  • That's commodity fetishism for you

  • Can someone fill me on the terms "homeless" vs. "unhoused"? Why is the latter being used more now?

  • Do you use some tool to generate markdown from these articles or do you do it manually?

  • ... But now?

Are you saying that Americans have become too smart to not be distracted with stories like this?

  • I think you all are being too harsh. The British brainpan cannot comprehend sunny weather so BBC are desaturating the images so that their audience can wrap their heads around it.

  • If the page is not archived you are shit out of luck.

You can ask in Jellyfin's forums or IRC Matrix room. It's not as convenient but it will help those looking for help later.

  • While it would be nice if everyone was super smart, I feel points like "people are getting dumber" have been held at all points in time. It's like that collage of clippings from American newspapers saying "nobody wants to work anymore" ever since the early 1900s.

  • They do terrible cinematography and post processing for footage in [bad country]. Is it a big deal? Maybe not. But it definitely betrays their bias and intentions.
