  • Because people are morons and I guarantee that there's a non-zero number of Democrat voters who will think "Oh, he's running again? I heard he was a very good president but I thought he was assassinated. I must have been wrong."

A lot of voters are woefully uninformed and only vote based on loose name recognition and gut feeling.

  • Where did I insult you?

"Wooosh" is a standard meme in reference to missing the point of a post or comment.

There was an entire sub on Reddit about it.

If you are getting offended at memes, perhaps it's a good opportunity to exercise nonattachment?

  • I've found that a lot of times people who are very interested in a given topic will see it everywhere they look, and as such, shove it into any conversation possible.

"What did you do during your trip to Egypt?" "We visited the pyramids." "You know, aliens may have built those."

It can get old very fast.

I'm certainly guilty of this and as someone with fairly nuanced interests that touch on common topics, am regularly asking myself if it's contextually appropriate to bring up my particular perspective in a discussion.

You literally jumped in on a quotation of a movie in response to a screenshot of that movie to try and have a discussion of Buddhist principles.

Maybe you could do better at knowing your audience and reading the room?

  • And yet if I don't need to poop, clearly God isn't sending the sign of needing to poop.

If we suddenly stopped having eclipses, we'd also likely have pretty serious problems on our hands.

But per Marjorie, if cyclical events are signs from God to repent, the absence of those events must either be signs from others or else a "you're all good with repentance."

So you might be constipated, but sinless.

So you can shit a stone and then throw it.

  • Ah yes, the Saros cycle (known as far back as before the time of Jesus), predictably causing eclipses like clockwork, is a 'sign.'

Also apparently a sign from God to repent:

    • Leaves falling from trees
    • Flowers blooming
    • Things getting colder
    • Things getting warmer
    • Days getting longer or shorter
    • The sun rising
    • Birds chirping
    • Stars
    • Water
    • Needing to poop
    • Clocks
  • You could have some festive themes for it too.

Like maybe a tree which you could decorate, and a color theme (I suggest red and green), and maybe cookies and give each other presents.

Sounds like a great idea Donald. If only something like that existed.

  • Kind of.

It should have been addressed and will still be around for decades despite healing, and it is a poster case for "see silly humans, you can mend your ways."

But there is also a cooling effect to a giant hole opposite to the effect of CO2 and improving the ozone may have slightly worsened the speed of warming as a result.

  • You could have been alive during the actual ice age. Or a hundred years ago when fascism was literally worse. Or an indentured slave to the British empire having your kids eaten by cannibals because you didn't make your rubber picking quota. Or in about 80% of the world today that has things worse.

The glass can be half full or half empty.

If you live your life focused on what you don't have, it devalues the things you do have. If you look at your life as one of abundance (and compared to 99.9% of human lives in all of history, it very much is), you'll have a life filled with value.

One of the few proven techniques to improve happiness is to end each day writing down three things you are grateful for that day.

All that said, yeah of course everyone is fucked and there's high odds things will only get worse from here.

Which means today is one of the best days of the rest of your life. 🎉🪩🕺

    Enjoy it while it lasts?

  • Climate change wouldn't be as bad as it is today if we didn't fix the ozone layer destruction trend.

A lot of the failing democracies around the world wouldn't be failing as badly if people who drank bleach and licked measles sores because Facebook said it would make them immortal actually died from the consequences instead of surviving to go on and share the posts again.

Sometimes making things better actually does make them worse.

Saving the deer from the wolf can have catastrophic effects.

  • No, but you can access it though the site I linked to which evaluates models by A/B test but also allows trying direct chat with them.

Claude 3 Opus often hits the allotted limit, but you can get a fair bit of runway with it most of the time. Can't do things like document upload like you can with the official paid client though.
