  • In this service gig economy, the $50k is absolutely huge. How many can use that to start up serious independent social media channels? Don't mind me over here day dreaming. That's a good year salary to try to generate income, and if successful can create more jobs by hiring extra help for editing, management, etc. Think of it like a drop in the bucket with what Putin was willing to pay propagandists per episode.

Also, $35k sounds like a good down payment in most states

  • Total tangent here, but I have a lot of cognitive dissonance around Butker. I mean I call him Butt Kicker. He's an amazing athlete but has gross political ideas and power.

What's dumber, I was upset to hear Brittany Mahomes passively endorsed Project 2025. I wasn't terribly surprised that's her stance, but seeing her confirm it and quickly backtrack with petty bullshit just. Ugh. Meanwhile, our other star players Kelce and Mahomes are keeping their mouths shut as Swift is taking heat. Idfk. Just a bunch of drama that makes me feel like I'm back in high school, but the stakes are much, much higher.

  • One of my favorite pass times is asking ChatGPT my hypotheses with prompts to search the web for academic sources (the free version is limited, but it works for a good few prompts over a few hours and let's you know when the cool down period is over).

Any time we make claims, it's very likely at this stage of human technology that there's research on it you can access and hone ideas around. Anecdotes can be really powerful in driving our interests and pursuit of knowledge, but I think we should always check in and be aware we're biased, fallible, sometimes hypocritical creatures.

  • There's some truth in this, but I think we should be mindful of nuance. Some parents do need to make decisions for medical reasons. Those reasons are often still exaggerated, and many parents aren't making an informed decision. I've had friends that required the procedure after puberty, but I'm pretty sure they've said there was no way they could have known prior to puberty anyway. I don't know anyone that needed it as a baby, but it can happen when obstructions develop in utero.

  • Well, no one is forcing transitions, but we do and should continue to provide necessary medical care for prisoners. Arguably that care needs improvement in terms of accessibility for citizens and immigrants alike, which I think is where Trump pointed out Harris has truthfully put some work into.

That's what sucks about so many of these claims. Are they based on any truth?

I will say, it's at least a good exercise in critical thinking to have to go claim by claim, as exhausting as it is to so consistently find blatant lies, let alone half-truths.

  • I heard recently that tiktok has open sourcing but don't fully understand what that means or if it's true. If it's true, though, it would be notable that it's the only platform that's been targeted to be shut down.

  • My mom fully believes this shit for some reason. She believes mothers carry to 9 months and just abort out of inconvenience, and that doctors don't work to keep the fetus alive out of the womb if possible. She shares pictures with descriptions of the procedures with zero sources beyond Christian crisis pregnancy centers. Or just Christians.

And she wonders why I started exhibiting signs of PTSD before I was even six.

  • I'm pretty sure Hitler or Mussolini popularized the term (Hitlers translation was closer to "lying press) originally to discredit journalists, socialists, scientists... Etc. Trump has been reported to have Mein Kampf on his bedside table, but I need to actually read it myself to confirm how much of his playbook comes from it. He for sure targets vulnerable, innocent groups (immigrants, women, LGBTQ, etc.). He eroded public infrastructure, attempting to privatize it where he could.

  • This was one reason I appreciated Harris repeating "Project 2025" several times. There's likely voters that didn't know about it, and it's possible her saying it enough got it in their heads to look it up. Can you tell I'm trying to be optimistic?

  • Honestly. I feel awful wondering if she'll have an increase of credible threats, cuz she's had stalkers for years I'm sure, but detangling whether it's because she just made the endorsement or if Musk inflamed it would be difficult to prove. Can his one message be taken as a threat on its own, though? It's creepy, but unless he's slid in her dms prior to this I don't think there's a case for anything.
