When I bought some of these earlier this year, the re-seller included an adapter that blocked those pins to prevent the reset issue. Didn't know what they were for at first and almost tossed them. (I should have read the included slip of paper)
Culture change takes a while; I feel like even if they replaced everyone at the top with safety minded engineers to run the company, it would be some time before they dig themselves out of the hole they created for themselves.
I was going to say - my next laptop, I’m just buying the cheapest SSD option, maxing out the RAM, and then I’ll swap the SSD. Although I’m probably already behind the times - I imagine m2 is the new standard storage in laptops now.

Yeah, I get it. Not sure that stating the doomer case is any better than installing solar panels, though, is my point. It gets us the same outcome in the end.
I’d like to be sympathetic, but this is the world they created. And on top of that, our generation was called lazy, entitled, etc. by the boomers. Guess you can lay down in that nice bed you made.
The R4 was the pinnacle of my gaming career. I had so much fun with that. I don’t think anything has come close to scratching the itch the same way. I think it meant a lot to me, too, because I got the DS for free (online, long story) and paid for the R4 chip with money from my first job.
