  • I am pretty similar to you. I started looking around my home for things that need fixing, or could maybe be improved. I didn't really want to spend a lot on any of that, so I've redneck engineered a lot of things. Turns out I'm pretty good at it. Glue, string, cardboard, wire. Any scraps you have lying around can probably be used on something.

  • If you have issues with too-close FOV in games, you may want to make sure you play the PC version and not the console one. PC you can adjust the FOV. Console version is one of the few games I've played that made me straight up barfy. Dishonored 2 was another.

  • you don't need to understand them

Part of the problem is that there are a lotof people who not only don't understand, they don't want to, and will actively try to avoid it, even if it's required for their job. I have a coworker who will actively sabotage her tasks that involve even basic office use because she hates tech. Just yesterday she managed to lock herself permanently out of her apple account and lost EVERYTHING because she refused to do any kind of setup to make sure she knew her passwords or had her shit backed up. Years of stuff gone.

There's a lot of people out there like that.

  • My addition to this would be !lemmyapps@lemmy.world, for a good list of apps you can try out. Note that while it says apps, this also covers browser extensions and PC web apps.

...also note I have never linked before, so I have no idea how that is going to turn out.
