  • The problem with your whole argument is that ultimately it comes down to the fact that the literal minority might be unhappy that they didn't get pick the winner over the will of the majority, and that might make them feel that it's exclusionary to them.

Such an outcome strengthens the “not my president” sentiment (on either side),

By definition, the majority will actually get their chosen candidate as president. Do you know what strengthens "not my president" sentiment? Having a privileged, autocratic minority choose the president, overriding the will of the voters.

  • Under the 2018 rules, in the Democratic National Convention superdelegates can't participate in the first vote and can participate only in a contested convention. Seems reasonable to me.

Wikipedia also reminded me about this little bit of Bernie hypocrisy that I'd forgotten about: "Sanders initially said that the candidate with the majority of pledged delegates should be the nominee; in May 2016, after falling behind in the elected delegate count, he shifted, pushed for a contested convention and arguing that, 'The responsibility that superdelegates have is to decide what is best for this country and what is best for the Democratic Party.'" Talk about unprincipled political opportunist.

  • It’s not a remotely accurate statement. They just pointed out that holding a phone, any phone, lowers the signal strength, and some grips will lower more than others. It also wasn’t a “campaign”; it was a Q&A response to a ludicrously overblown “problem.” The next year’s phone kept the same antenna design but the drama had passed already.

  • What a terrible idea. I'm glad they shelved this project. It also runs counter to Apple's other projects with Goldman Sachs. The Apple Card was supposed to make it easy to see what you were spending your money on and encourages you to pay off your debt and avoid paying interest. The savings account obviously encourages saving money. Encouraging people to invest in individual stocks is grossly irresponsible. Humans are not high-frequency trading computers; we're terrible at actively choosing stocks. Even full-time professionals are really bad at it. Broad portfolio index funds and similar instruments are not fun, but they are a sound place to actually invest your money.

  • The new pope and Mussolini essentially rose to power together, forming an alliance. The church’s open embrace of the Fascists was critical to the government’s power and to ending the enmity between the church and secular authorities.

The pope was also jaw-dropping antisemitic. Jews did not have many friends in the Catholic Church.

  • I just left Paris a week ago and 100% of the service staff I came across were very friendly and almost all of them spoke passable to excellent English. I’d say “bonjour” and they’d start talking to me in English. As a tourist with only extremely basic French remembered from high school, it was really nice to experience how false the stereotypes were.

  • With the switch to Apple Silicon, it’s pretty much impossible to justify buying a Windows PC unless you have specific needs that absolutely require it; the Mac hardware is just that much better. Shop around for the best discounts on an M1 or M2 MacBook Air and just buy it. I suspect she’ll especially appreciate how much better Apple’s trackpads are, plus the super long battery life that comes from power-efficient chips.

  • The only one you should ever actually use in English is “octopuses,” which is correctly used by Nature in their article and in the linked NIH proposal. It’s the right term for both everyday use and for academic and legal purposes. Octopus is a common English word and warrants the standard English plural.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

  • If he were not part of the Seattle police I might be willing to put down my pitchfork and give him the benefit of the doubt, but since he is, in fact, a prominent member of a lawless gang that is notorious for egregious civil rights violations, I say guilty until proven innocent. He’s already actively lost the trust of the public.

  • Trump’s DOJ issued a binding legal opinion

These “opinions,” even if they were legally sound to start (which this one wasn’t), are not binding on anybody, especially subsequent administrations. The article is also based on the ludicrously false premise that Republicans expect the rules that apply to them to apply equally to Democrats, and that a precedent favorable to their position must be extended to non-fascists as well. We need look no further than the current head of the DOJ to see that’s not true.

  • iPhone 15 Pro tech specs page: “USB 3 (up to 10Gb/s)” with a footnote that says “USB 3 cable with 10Gb/s speed required.”

A regular need for high-speed data transfers is legitimately a “pro” use case. You need the Pro model and you need to buy a thick, stiff high-speed cable.

  • iPhone 15 Pro: 187g
    iPhone 14 Pro: 206g

It’s an over 9% reduction in weight.

Did you research the announcement literally at all? First you say it’s not actually titanium, despite that being a marquee feature, and now you’re just making up weights?
