  • Jill is a great character. I highly recommend VA-11 Hall-A for a single play through, even though it has some replay value.

  • Having worked there when I was younger I can confirm they paid well and their scholarship put me through a year of college.

  • Chain restaurants often times will be more expensive than small, hole in the wall places. Part of that is the price of rent that gets passed onto the consumer. If you have the option, I'd say try to find a taco truck, food window (no seating area), or grab and go food from a grocery store.

If you're in Seattle, Dicks Drive In is still relatively cheap compared to McDonalds.

  • Personally I thought the book was good, but I don't think an adaptation to a movie format is the right move. Maybe a mini series would be best.

  • No Metal Gear??

  • Return it and swap for another

  • What in the actual fuck

  • I used to work at DS and there was definitely overhiring done during the early pandemic when the stock price was going up. At least three people I know were let go in this round and they were in technical teams, which was surprising.

  • I switched to Ubuntu 22.04 on 2023-12-31. I had used a bunch of other distros back in 2008-2012, then got tired of manually tweaking things constantly. Things have come a long way and there are way more options to make things work. I don't have to spend hours on the CLI or reboot frequently.

So yeah, I'm going to stick with Ubuntu for a bit, then switch to something else.

  • Yeah, well it works for me.

  • I moderated r/collapse for about a year. I've been aware since 2012 what is coming and it's only this last year that it's like a switch was flipped. This summer is going to be brutal and it will only get worse.

I can't talk about this with my wife, as she is unable to cope with the data and shuts down. None of my friends want to talk about the problems we face and call me a downer. I've come to the realization that every day that I'm not baking alive, dying of thirst/hunger, or being killed for my meat is a good day that I should cherish.

  • Ubuntu 22.04 server. It works well enough for my purposes and until it doesn't I don't see a reason to switch distros.

  • I got a Chevy Bolt 1LT (cheapest I could find with federal/state tax credits) and it's the lowest maintenance car I've ever owned. No oil changes - literally just rotate your tires every 7500 miles. Less than $4 per charge to 90% (about 200-260 miles depending on how much I use the climate control). Parallel parking is super easy. Infotainment kind of sucks, but Android Auto makes it way better.

I don't understand why they want to kill these cars other than they aren't making enough money.

  • Portables

Yup, that's what I was told they were called.

  • A+ execution, one of the better Dubya memes I've seen

  • So you'd rather he do nothing? I know it is a drop in the bucket but let's not let good be the enemy of perfect.

  • Ice ages typically happen due to very low insolation or the ability of solar energy to reach the surface of our planet. Insolation is a term often used when describing how much energy a solar panel can create.

Right now we have a big problem with too many greenhouse gases, which exacerbate the insolation we already have. It is heating our oceans rapidly, thus causing the break up of ice sheets in the Arctic and Antarctica. At some point the oceans won't be able to absorb the heat we are receiving and air temperatures will begin to rise as well. Equilibrium. Hence Venus by Tuesday.

  • If the way things are going is no one owns anything they buy, then the incentive to buy things drops significantly.
