  • US. We have kindergarten (start at age 6) followed by grades 1 through 12. How they are divided depends on where you live. Here are three examples I have seen:

    K-8: Primary school
9-12: Secondary school or High school

K-5: Elementary school or Grade school
    6-8: Middle school
    9-12: High school

K-6: Elementary school or Grade school
    7-9: Junior high school
    10-12: High school

Anything beyond 12th grade is "post-secondary."

  • That FediDB stats page is confusing. It isn't clear whether they only count instances that have joined Fedipact, or also include instances that have blocked Threads without joining Fedipact. A quick glance at the list suggests the latter. But in that case, there are a bunch of instances missing from the list.

The list on the Fedipact site is a better source:
    https://fedipact.veganism.social/

As for admins versus users, here on sh.itjust.works we held a vote among our users. The result was overwhelming: 78% of users voted to preemptively block Threads.

(Edit to fix some awkward phrasing.)

  • The geese are already working for the government, covertly scouting landing areas in the US. Soon enough all the golf courses and large grassy parks are going to be improvised Canadian airstrips, I swear to God.

  • The Virtua Fighter series never hooked me as a game, but the 3D graphics in the early arcade machines looked awesome at the time. It felt like a glimpse of the future.

  • Can confirm this works surprisingly well.

  • I'm okay with letting you try your hand at moderating. However, I forgot about the report federation bug in Lemmy (I added an edit to the post just now). You should create a sh.itjust.works account to moderate communities here or you will not be able to receive user reports. Using you kbin account would basically be flying blind.

  • I feel like it's more at the metro area level than the state level. Cities that see a combination of heavy traffic, frequent salting & plow use, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles are going to have garbage roads. Chicago and Boston are at the top of my list.

  • Don't forget to add those leap days, people. Their count is off by 17,750,000.

  • It looks like either a bug or deficiency with kbin. kbin has a message feature, but I haven't been able to send messages between kbin and Lemmy.

  • Holy cow, happy cake day!

What have the past three years on Lemmy been like for you?

  • Dunk it in water, squeeze it into a tight ball, and take bites like it's an apple.

  • Lookin' California, and feelin' Minnesota.

  • Secede

  • I like the graphic but it needs to expand beyond espresso.

Cafezinho: Boil water and sugar, add coffee grounds, strain and serve.

Turkish coffee: Like cafezinho but not strained. Optionally add cardamom.

Cowboy coffee / backpacker's special: Cheap coarse-ground coffee, boiled and served unstrained. A little chewy but it does the job.
