  • You are wrong for now, it is still possible.

    • Ctrl + Shift + F3 during setup gives you access to sysprep
    • In an admin CMD you can excecute the BypassNRO.cmd script. In C:\Windows\System32\oobe\
    • I have encountered one 24H2 installation where the oobe folder was empty, but if you copy the file from another device it works just the same
    • Reboot from sysprep and you can now select "Install without internet" when selecting a WIFI

This will not work if you're already connected to a wifi. BypassNRO sets a registry flag, so it's only a matter of time till they patch it out, but it works for now.

Edit: Rufus also allows the creation of a local user when making the installation USB, skipping the entire setup process.

  • I'm running my instance for the same reason, it's been running for over a year and I'm the only active user. Although there's people passively using it as well.

Storage doesn't go over 100GB much. The only downside I notice is a community on Lemmy is only federated if at least one of the users is subscribed to it. Using Lemmy-federate you can add a bot account that subscribes to new communities.

  • cries in xss

  • Oh for sure, I'm saying malicious .lnk's won't all be this badly obfuscated

  • Using shellcode it's possible to get persistent RCE using less then 100 bytes, don't let one bad attempt at obfuscation cloud your judgement. Size does not matter.

  • +1 for StirlingPDF, amazing tool. I use Handbrake for video conversion and Gimp for images. IT-tools for text based conversions, but it does many other things too and can be self hosted.

  • This is the "Viggo kicked the helmet and broke his toe" for F1 lore

  • The context of the scene is Keaton's character ordered a burger and received* it in record time. He askes flabergasted "so where are the plates how should I eat it?" To which the clerk replies "right out of the bag!"

  • For anything but fast paced, sure maybe, for competitive shooters like this article, absolutely unacceptable. Input lag gets noticeable past 10ms. Jarring past 20ms. Combine that with frame timing inconsistency and more screen tearing, I guess ya'll like watching slideshows.

  • This video from a while ago found more than 30ms input lag and fps inconsistencies. I'm also reading Directx 12 is optimizing borderless fullscreen and after a quick search did not find new tests.

In post the author did tests and found that it mathers less then it used to, but windows Aero is still running extra composition cycles.

From personal experience I can tell you I've flicked out of bounds many times clicking outside of the game making it lose focus and losing a gunfight because of borderless windowed. YMMV

  • Amazing, I'm sure you've got many an interesting story to tell being in the field for that long.

  • Ctrl F, "Gay". How the admin makes a naughty list

  • Input lag, performance issues and mouse bounds. AFAIK that's still a thing

  • It used to add quite a bit of input lag and take a hit on performance, and you could always flick the mouse out of the game like in this article. Tbh it was so jarring I haven't tried it in probably a decade.

  • An issue I have observed on my desktop though is that the mouse likes to leave the screen. I had to set it to Fullscreen, instead of a Borderless Window to get around the issue.

People are still playing on borderless windowed?

  • This interaction is basically me at a restaurant

  • Is very energetic

That's the secret IMHO, being active is more than working out. Living an energetic lifestyle gives you a faster metabolism. Activate your core doing anything in your daily life will burn much more calories than slouching.

  • Cannot recall how long they've been there but EU passports have barcodes too. A 2D matrix on the back.

  • Lemmy.world is also hosted in the Netherlands IIRC, I'm just proxying through the UK.
