Also, I would just like to point out that I have very rarely had a landlord do maintenance on the property I live in. One building hadn't seen a lick of maintenance in over 30 years, until I finally convinced them to replace the oven.

Sure, let's assume that's true. The difference though is, I own the property. I get something out of the deal other than a temporary roof over my head - something I would argue is a human right.

If I were renting, I would be paying all those same costs, plus a profit margin - and I wouldn't own anything at all. Someone else gets to cash out on the investment that I entirely paid for.

Not everyone can buy a house, because of greedy people using housing as a driver of profits. There are a growing mass of people out there that will simply never make enough to own a property where they live. For some people, renting is not a choice - its the only option.

Also: you are completely and utterly missing the entire point of c/fuckcars.

Another thing that pisses me off is that I'm literally paying >100% of the cost of the property over time, yet they retain full ownership. It's an investment with essentially zero risk, if you have a tenant that isn't a racoon.

Not sure I have a good solution for that issue, honestly, but the idea of it irks me.

My overall position boils down to: Housing should never generate profit. A landlord can take pay for the work they do, and put money aside for maintenance, but there should never be a profit made on rent.

The real test is how they feel when they actually need the organs.

Not meaning to call anyone out, but it's easy to say no to organs when you're life isn't on the line.

Haha I feel that. When I talk to my wife, I often have to preface my ramblings with "I know you don't care about this, but..."

I don't really go anywhere per-se. I tell my wife, and if it's especially big I'll tell a friend or two.

I love the Ender's Game series, but these days I admit I sadly find it difficult to separate the art from the artist.

A bit off-topic, but apparently this is one of Denis Villeneuve's reasons for wanting a hiatus before making a third Dune movie. Besides just wanting a break, he said he would also like to have the actors age a few years for the next one.

Honestly, I first saw this like a month ago, and it's been living in my head rent-free ever since.

Oh I have no doubt it will be a financial success - I just meant as it pertains to my enjoyment.

I'm also totally fine with them releasing a game without the spirit of the previous games. Those games still exist. I just might not buy the new one, that's all.

Honestly, I agree. I'll probably still play it, though.

GTA is one of those few series that so far have actually been worth the AAA pricetag to me (also going back to GTA2), but I definitely see the potential for failure here. Going to wait a bit after release and watch the reviews before springing for it.

I mean, we've waited 36 years since the last one, I'm totally fine with waiting a bit longer to avoid stress on the devs.
