  • I joined the military when I couldn't figure out what to do with my life and I've been back a handful of times

It's rough. At first I didn't like going home because I felt I could have a better time just staying where I was stationed and enjoying my time off. Eventually I came back around and I stopped feeling anxious.

It sucks the first few times because it isn't the same feeling of home.

  • Smells coming back up, especially when related to the outside, could be indicative of a larger sewer issue. That's why they were so happy to respond to our issue.

In our case, there's a flap that is supposed to only allow stuff out. Sometimes that flap gets stuck open and can't shut. If the sewer levels rise above that flap, now stuff is flowing the wrong way back into the private side of the sewage line.

  • Before you call the plumber, try calling the city. We had sewage backing up into our showers so we called the city and they found the issue was on our side but still fixed it for us for free.

Worst case scenario, they say it's not their problem. Best case scenario, they give you the solution or even fix it themselves.

  • The ship owners don't want safety, or at least they don't want to pay for it. Let them suffer.

The ship owners (the company owners) are more than likely not on that ship. It's just regular workers.

There's no way to "let them rot" without risking the lives of the people on the ship.

I get that Lemmy has a very diehard "eat the rich" stance, and I do too, but make sure it's directed at the correct people.

  • Just because it flies under a certain flag doesn't mean it only serves that country.

Also, the people on those ships deserve the right to work safely, regardless of who is providing that protection.

That being said, other countries that rely on these ships should be helping as well. US warships are doing it to prove their weapons and train the crew, but in the end it's all paid for by the US taxpayers.

  • Oof, that's rough.

It really depends on the job, I guess. I wore the Danner Reckonings for about 2 years straight and they were a little rough looking but still in great shape. The tip of the boot where the sole curves up the front was starting to peel. The worst I did with them was mountain climbing and some very wet environments.

Some of the dudes I worked with were sent to an area with a lot of lava rock, which absolutely shreds boots.

  • For the screen, you could potentially find a drop in screen replacement panel on Amazon or somewhere that has the refresh rate you're looking for.

I replaced the screen in my wife's computer when it cracked. $60 or so for a 120 hz IPS panel.
