...they are doing it because they were going to throw their money at some 501©(3) for tax reasons anyways and they figured they’d make it a big opportunity to publicly launder their reputation as an ad campaign
There is a big metal cage at the entrance of our store, where customers can "donate" stuff like dog food cans and blankets to a nearby animal shelter. You're only allowed to put stuff in there that you JUST bought inside of the store (allegedly for "safety reasons" so that noone can put poisoned food in there or whatever) and the store then treats the contents of that cage as donations FROM the store even tho the items have been paid in full by customers already.
Shady AF but if you try to argue against it, people automatically assume that you're a mean A-hole that wants shelter dogs to starve. No idea whether this is even legal TBH.
If you want to donate something, always donate cash or items DIRECTLY to a shelter.
Just some additional information: I wasn't able to get any posts over 10k to actually go through, but once I edited them to be lower than 10k characters total, they showed up without issues. Seems like the current limit is still 10k, at least for text posts (but it would be awkward if comments were allowed to be 5x times longer than posts....)
An easy way to check for the length of what you're trying to post is to copy it to a text editor and let that program check for the number of characters. 10k is a LOT less than people assume.
(for comparison, this comment is already over 600 characters long.)
EDIT: Turns out that 10k is the initial limit for the first post / comment but once you edit it, the limit becomes 50k
Whoops..... force of habit.
PS: Good Bot ^^
Sorry to hijack this post but I wanted to check for whether other people had the same issue first rather than immeditaly create a post myself only to be told that a solution already exists ^^°
I'm having a similar problem than the OP with a community I'm somewhat frequent in (c/totk / !totk@lemmy.world). There is a single mod, who has created the community, posted a single comment on the same day, and then apparently left as there were no more interactions after that. At first I thought the mod might be just lurking instead of posting / commenting themselves, but now there are off-topic poststhat don't get removed even after 3+ days and double digits of downvotes, the typos in the community name that were pointed out 2 days after it was created are still not fixed, and it also doesn't look like the other community they created is moderated either.
Would it be okay to request this community, and if yes, is there an official method for that?
...on the bright side, with that weird article, you now have a very obvious and easy-to-understand example of why it IS effing important to specify what "average" means. ;)
"It's just a prank bro"-people. I already hate it when someone finds it hilarious to hurt others, but if those same "pranksters" then also act all indignant and percieve themselves as victims of prejudice when other people do NOT find their "pranks" funny, they can GTFO.
Gesundheit.

I'm happy to see that "used to be" in your sentence ;) either one is already hard to overcome on its own, but both at the same time ...much respect.

Not only that - I would even go so far as saying that these are examples where OP's statement is even MORE fitting than someone who "does not do it" anyway. A junkie warning younger generations about the dangers of drug abuse - someone who experienced all the effects firsthand and is struggling to quit - is a lot more convincing than someone who knows the word "drug" only from a dictionary.
After looking through the comments here, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you just don't understand what you're saying, because you seem to be under the impression that "defederating" means that noone that isn't subscribed to the defederating instance will have access to the content anymore. (e.g. Instance A cuts ties with Instance B and C so people with accounts on Instance B and C can no longer read what is published on Instance A)
This is not how it works.
You can browse all instances without even having an account on any of them so absolutely noone loses access to anything. The only thing you temporarily(!) lose is the ability to WRITE anything on the defederated instance, but you can just make an account there anytime you want.
So when Instance A cuts ties with Instance B and C, people with accounts on A can no longer WRITE anything in communities on B and C, but everyone can still READ everything, and if you happen to have an account on Instance B and want to write something on Instance A, you can just create an account there.
Spending ten seconds on creating an account is not censorship.
As awkward as it may feel, but if you are the only person creating content, then there IS content at least. It doesn't make sense to do nothing and just hope that other people will eventually fill the void, as random visitors will take one look at the community and think "eh, it's empty, no use in staying here" and just move on. Someone has to make the first step.
Of course a little bit of advertisement can't hurt as well, but content comes first.
My ex was a psycho tho, completely unrelated to whether or not she wanted children. Some context: https://lemmy.world/comment/2313628
EDIT: ok, linking comments doesn't seem t work ATM, so here's a copypaste instead:
My ex was convinced that girls hitting / insulting men was not only completely fine and normal, but even hilarious and “cute” for some weird reason - and she legit couldn’t understand why I did not find it funny or endearing. It didn’t help that she was also visibly smaller than me (about 2/3 my height) and percieved those actions as her own unique “love language”.
Let’s just say that there is a good reason this woman is my EX now. It took a while for the rose-tinted glasses to finally shatter so I could see the red flags for what they were, but I’m glad that psycho is no longer part of my life.
(I know from mutual friends that she still thinks women hitting men is okay, but men hitting women deserve the death penalty)

Not all videos have actual "content" tho. Reaction videos for example are just videos another person created while the uploader shoves their face into the camera and grimaces a bit. Or compilations, which are just a lazy no-effort way to bulk-repost stuff other people made. Or these bullshit "X movie in full length" videos that are 2+ hours of just displaying a download link.
I would not call these people "content creators" IMHO, even tho they do, in fact, create and upload videos.
(This is just my personal opinion tho, nothing "official" in any way)
I've always had very very low interest in relationships anyway - I value my "alone time" greatly, prefer to not have emotional responsibilities towards other people and never wanted kids / a family. I fell in love exctly once in my life and that woman turned out to be a psycho. I have absolutely no interest in trying that ever again.
15+ years single and comfortable with the situation.
(Oops ....replied to the wrong comment, sorry)
A couple of years ago, bus drivers in France started wearing skirts during a particularily bad heat wave because skirts were allowed but shorts weren’t.

To me personally, it's when the speaker clearly has no interest in the topic but still talks about it anyway for some reason (meetings, presentations etc.). In all honesty, I could listen to people who talk about a topic they're passionate about for literal hours even if I don't understand anything they say, but as soon as someone drones on about something they don't actually like in a "I'm expected to say this so just get this over with" kind of way, my brain shuts off - even if it's a topic I would normally enjoy hearing about.
My cat. He may be a total asshole, but still my number one top priority. Everything else can be replaced in one way or another.
