I don’t know how anyone thought this was a good idea for a video.
The dumber and more infuriating a video is, the higher the chance that viewers will start arguing with each other and/or the creator, and share links offsite to show others just HOW dumb and infuriating the video is. It's the entire point of Rage Bait to be as obnoxious as possible to make people interact with the video in one way or another, because the creator gets "paid per click" in ad revenue. It doesn't matter to those people whether the comments are actually civil discussions or literally every youtuber just commented "f- you!", because both are worth one click = same amount of cash. Sharing links offsite is free advertisement on top of that.
Long story short, it is deliberate. And the best way to deal with those is to report and ignore them.
The sellers usually don't say anything of the sort because ebay can use that against them and close their shop. I am unsure ATM whether a buyer can leave feedback if the purchase has been cancelled (I've not been on ebay for years) but a neutral one simply stating what happened, that might not be a bad idea.
Some sellers try to maximise their chances by listing the same item on ebay, amazon, etsy or whatever to reach as many people as possible. It can happen that they sell more items at once than they actually have in stock, so some orders get cancelled / refunded.
I am fairly sure that ebay has rules against it, but people do it anway. Reporting rarely works, and if you got your refund already, then just leave it be.
100% agreed with all of these, but I would add one more factor: Limited spare time.
When I was a kid, it was a lot easier to spend a few hours in front of a console undisturbed, immersed and focused on the game. When you're an adult and come home from soul-crushing work, hungry and exhausted, then your last bit of energy goes into household, pets, chores, family and the like and then it's late at night already and if you don't go to sleep soon then the next day will be worse. Where and how do you cram a couple of consecutive, undisturbend hours of playtime into such a schedule?
If a game isn't immediatly interesting, fun or otherwise a good reality escape, it is not worth sacrificing time on it when you have to strictly ration your limited amount of spare time already.

In addition to what others already said:
- if you notice that you're angry / annoyed, don't act immediatly. Leave the PC, do something unrelated (like the dishes) for a few minutes and give yourself a little space to think about your next action. IMHO it is better to act / react a little later but with a calm mind and neutral language rather than giving in to anger and escalating the situation.
- If you're still angry, type a response anyway. Read it. Delete it. THEN write the actual response. Sometimes you have to let your anger out, but this doesn't mean that you have to send the message afterwards. Sometimes you need more than once "cycle" of venting-deleting-rewriting until the response is in an actual neutral tone, but it is worth the effort.
- Some people are simply trolls and only want to annoy / trigger others while pretending to be victims. Some people had a bad day and are unreasonably touchy, angry and frustrated, maybe a little drunk, and don't really notice that they're being assholes. It can be hard to distinguish between those two at first glance, but keep in mind that the comment history is public...
- If their other comments read a lot more calm and reasonable, I usually just ask whether they had a bad day and want to talk. Surprisingly, that does work more often than not to de-escalate a situation. You can also opt to just ask them to not do "it" again without immediatly resorting to mod tools, especially when the offense is something trivial like being off topic (just as a general rule, not related to your specific situation)
- However, if they behave like assholes all the time across all instances, or clearly show that they aren't interested in behaving like decent human beings even after a suspension/warning, then just block them. As a mod, you kinda have the responsibility to protect other users from nuisances, so this isn't exactly "powertripping", and the chances that the user in question suddenly starts to behave are slim. It's good to give people a second chance, but noone deserves a third chance unless they're showing effort to be better.
- Sometimes there is no "good" option. Sometimes you have to chose between "bad" and "worse" and it will feel bad.
As for your specific example, I'd tell them the following;
"That behaviour and attitude are not welcome here. You can chose to leave them at the doorstep when you enter this community, or you can stay out of the community along with the slurs. Your decision."
Every time I think it can't possibly get any dumber .... reddit proves me wrong. I have been a redditor for nearly ten years before I jumped ship and switched to Lemmy, and during that almost-decade I have used reddit's own search function for all of fifteen minutes before giving up and using google with the keyword "reddit + whatever I wanted to find" instead. It simply sucks.
Never used those buttons, but my idiot cat does have his ways to tell me what he wants, and some of them are a bit abstract. For example, I tried to teach him to "knock" on the window when he wants to be let out / in so he won't wail at the top of his lungs in the middle of the night when he wants me to open the window for him. It worked after a few weeks, but what he learned is "knocking on glass = human lets me out" so he will sometimes go knock on the glass door of the cabinet instead and then make a beeline for the window once I open it for him. When I play dumb and open the cabinet instead, he'll just knock harder or THEN move to the window. He isn't interested in the actual cabinet or its contents at all.
Tapping a button to let the human know what you want can't be that much more different / abstract for a pet than tapping on glass. You just have to be consistent in showing them the right behaviour and reward it with the correct action whenever they do it right, so they eventually make the connection.

Huh... I never knew about that version, but it seems to be a lot closer to what the novel had as an ending, so yes.
It should be easy to verify - open the public modlog (https://lemmy.world/modlog) and find a random user that has been banned recently, view their profile / comments and check if the icon shows up. If the icon really means that they are, in fact, banned, then it should show up every time.
....that being said, I've never seen that icon before. Are you using an app or the desktop version? Do you get a mini pop up when you hover the mouse pointer over the icon?
The original/alternate ending of "I am Legend" that was scrapped for the dumb reason that test audiences didn't immediatly understand it.
I have a bike and know how to repair it, so if there are materials availiable in case of an emergency, I would have a means of transport that doesn't rely on electricity or gas. I'm a bit out of shape ATM but that's a problem that would fix itself if I "had to" rely on a bike to get around.
I know how to build fires, chop and dry wood, sharpen an axe properly and there are lots of trees around these parts, so with a little extra work I would be able to stay warm and cook food. I think I even still have my grandpa's old axe here somewhere.
My grandparents taught me how to preserve stuff properly; drying, pickling, smoking and canning raw foods, like fruit, veggies, fish, meat and mushrooms. I know how to grow and store potatoes properly - the only thing I'd need here would be a bit of fertile land and a cellar, but in case of a world wide disaster like that, it would probably not be that hard to find people willing to turn their lawn into a field and toss out obsolete electronics out of their cellar to store food there instead.
I know how to fish and I'm not that bad with a bow either (medieval enthusiast here), and I know how to quickly kill and properly prepare chickens, ducks and rabbits. No actual experience with bigger animals yet, but the basics are there and I'm not icky about getting my hands dirty. I know how to skin rabbits too, but I have not yet tried to make leather / pelts.
I am somwehat okay at identifying wild mushrooms, but not good enough to be 100% certain all the time, so that's a point where I needed to be cautious.
There are plenty of small rivers around these parts, so drinking water might not be an issue, provided that stuff is actually safe to drink. Boiling doesn't always remove all the nasty stuff, and I only have a very vague idea of how to build filters out of natural materials, so I would either need to experiment around, rely on the knowledge of others, or look it up on the then nonexistent internet.
I would definitely miss the internet and since I'm a total videogame nerd as well, it would suck big time to lose that hobby permanently, but as for sheer survival, I'm fairly certain I would make it for a while, especially if I could find other people to teach them what I know and build a small community. I can't do ALL of the things mentioned above all on my own every single day for weeks or months on end, but if the knowledge is there and there are people willing to learn and do their share, I'm positive it would work out after a while.
The biggest issues would probably be medicine and other people: My knowledge about natural medicine is VERY limited - birch bark for pain and the like, but I wouldn't be able to treat more serious injuries or diseases properly on my own. And since people as a whole tend to be assholes when presented with disastrous conditions, I would be very cautious about whom to trust. A lot of doomsday preppers seem to have the only plan of hoarding weapons and food and shooting others when running low on supplies so they can take other people's stuff, and that's nothing I would want to have to deal with.
PS: Just to mention it; I live in a somewhat rural area anyway. Plenty of people here still keep their own chickens, live in houses that still have wood stoves and "old timey" fireplaces, grow their own veggies and fruit, and I know at least two families around these parts that still have horse-drawn carriages and trained shirehorses (they offer rides for a fee for events, parties and the like). A lot of older folks here grew up on farms and have the respective knowledge still. We even have a "traditional" blacksmith and farrier here, as well as a hunting club with a couple dozen members. The knowledge of how to survive without elctricity is definitely there, a lot of non-electric tools as well, and everything else is just a matter of time and cooperation.
Medicine would still be an issue tho. (Insulin has been mentoined a couple of times already - you can't just substitute traditional natural folk medicine for everything)

They're one of the best (fictional) examples of caring parents and lovers, and I will die on that hill.
No idea about personality traits, but there have been studies about what kind of human behavior, especially facial expressions, might be "pre programmed" in our genes. For example, rolling your eyes when you're frustrated with someone, or raising your eyebrows when you are surprised - that's something even most blind people do instinctively, despite never having seen it / never learned it from others.
"Fun" Fact: that chart isn't even a joke - it is actually, factually, pretty accurate. You can get a prison sentence of up to 3 years for that particular gesture.
...on the other hand, it is a wonderful piece of irony that a joke about Germans turns out to be a non-joke in disguise, lol. German humor is no laughing matter, after all!
