  • I cannot, for the life of me, go see either David Wilcox or Kim Mitchell in concert.

Every time I try, something comes up. Most recently, I tried to go see Kim Mitchell, and he had a heart attack before the show and had to cancel.

The strangest thing is that they're both Canadian acts, and I live in one of the biggest cities in Canada, so its not like they only come around once every five or ten years. Its become like a yearly occurence of finding out why I wont see them this time lol.

  • Ah, gotcha. I was just sharing because it seemed a little more active, might generate more discussion.

Im sure no one there would be mad if you shared a recipe or two ; )

  • Imagine doing over a decade of schooling and training, spending thousands of dollars to become a platic surgeon, making really, really good money and generally be respected by most people.

Imagine that not being enough and you throw it all away in an attempt at being a fucking tiktok star.

  • The only nice thing about metric is the base 12 system with feet and inches.

12 divides quite nicely by 2, 3, 4, and 6. It makes it a little more intuitive to say "4¾ inches" instead of "12.065 centimeters".

Of course, all that goes out the window when you start using a metric base and no longer have to convert inches to cm, and stop basing your builds on feet and inches.

  • How is 0°C for freezing and 100°C for boiling arbitrary? That seems to me like the most reasoned way to do it.

  • But if all you have is a job, you're always going to remain working class.

... and why is that such a terrible thing? The world cannot be full of owners, someone has to actually do the work. Is it much more realistic for us to have a comfortable middle, working class than it is to have a bunch of wealth concentrated in business owners while the majority fight for crumbs.

  • I really dont get this "Lemmy/Mastodon is sooooo haaaaard to sign up for". I'm a barely technoliterate 30 something who's closest thing to coding knowledge is the Missingno cheat in Pokemon Blue, and I figured it out. Its not that hard.

Like, the instances/server thing is the only real extra step you have in signing up, but besides that, its like signing up for any other website.

  • Cheapest and easiest way to get into espresso-adjacent drinks. Is it going to give you that espresso experience? No, but for literally 1% of the cost of an actually decent espresso machine, you can up your coffe game extraordinarily.

Get an Aeropress, a good grinder with fresh beans, and a digital temperature kettle, and you'll be shocked at how good coffee can taste.

  • Turn it on them. Start preaching about religion, politics, or any other divisive topic until they are uncomfortable enough to leave on their own volition.

  • My Aeropress. Great quality, espresso-adjacent coffee quickly and easily in the morning.

  • Isn't one of the main points of circlejerk lampooning reddit culture?

Lemmy is still pretty new and finding its identity. Give it time.

  • Right? We are literally in the 21st century, but still cling to the ideals and customs of the industrial revolution.

  • Remember, its not the broken system, its all the little joys that you try to inject into your miserable existence that is the issue.

  • Nah, even people living within their means arent doing well. My partner and I have very good, stable jobs, with a combined household income of nearly~$100,000 after taxes and deductions (union dues, pension deductions, etc).

We drive a 12 year old car, we don't take vacations, we don't have kids, we don't carry debt, and we don't spend beyond our means.

Granted, we had the unmitigated audacity to rent a house instead of an apartment because I like to play music with my friends, so thats an extra $200 a month over the cheapest apartment we could find that we're "wasting" on our comfort.

But factor in the rising cost of gestures broadly* everyfuckingthing, we have been able to save less than 10% of just the down payment required to begin sniffing at houses in the last 3 years.

The system currently is broken and needs a major overhaul, so we can level the playing field and the middle class has a chance of existing again.

  • Wow... I knew there wouldnt be a lot, but didnt think it would be this bad.
