I definitely do this at home. I like not having my fingers all greasy if I want to use the tv remote or phone. Also a must when I'm eating while working on other stuff
Whew that was a super hectic talk-through of whatever shonky slides I already have but it looks like I am mostly there. The power of just slapping up one image with notes on another screen so you can talk as little or as much as needed depending on time!
Looks like my supervisor is pretty flat out marking other stuff next week so it really is hyper-compressed crunch time rest of this week to get the slides to a usable place, then get a 90% draft of the thesis across by latest Tuesday next week.
Ah well, I operate best under pressure and maybe it's a good target for me to try and get this wrapped up by my RL cake day around that due date as a bonus motivator... time to clear the weekend and get more food ordered! 🦾
Unpopular opinion indeed 😭 Cold, chewy pizza just makes my stomach turn. It is the food of desperation. I'd rather have a cheese toastie. Even a microwaved slice that's eaten in 30 seconds before the texture goes all funny
I normally just buy one pizza and eat it that night, or maybe eat 70% and put the rest in the fridge for breakfast or lunch. I can't really eat pizza too many days in a week. But on Monday there was a great deal - either one large pizza for $15 or two for $25, and I went for two precisely because then a few extra meals would be sorted during the week. I wouldn't do this regularly though.
Doesn't the cheese stick to the sandwich press? Teach me your ways. I wouldn't mind having the rest of the pizza for lunch tomorrow and there is a sandwich press available at uni...
It's about a 15-20 minute presentation with a relatively vague marking rubric. It ascribes equal components to each aspect of the thesis that I will be presenting on, which is a bit dumb since obviously the intro and discussion will require a lot more time than the aims and probably the results.
The presentation itself is going to be picture heavy but a lot of the time is currently being spent creating the diagrams/maps (I will still need these for the thesis as well so it's not time wasted at least). I have not even finished the slides let alone started coming up with a draft script to time myself. At first I was worried that I would not even get up to 15 minutes but I think I will be able to have minimal text on the slides and expand/summarise as much as is needed depending on how I'm going for time.
My problem is that the check lists are out of control (the more I do the more I realise I need to do and my priorities start getting confused). I have managed to stick to some relatively hard constraints for this presentation so I'm going to make sure the slides and all the diagrams are done that way I am free to move back onto the thesis. Rather than juggling everything at once...
Welp, it must be some kind of divine intervention or something but my presentation has been postponed at the last minute to some day next week. I'm still going to work towards finishing up to present to my supervisor tomorrow arvo, I NEED URGENT DEADLINES OR MY BRAIN WON'T WORK.
Today was not a great day to realise I'd left my rain jacket in the work car. Luckily I nabbed a park close to the library and don't have to walk far with an umbrella. Wish me all the focus and concentration to get my presentation ready by tomorrow arvo - I'm going to start by creating one diagram summarising my entire method and two maps that need to go in my report anyway
10/10 rant except for the part where it is a very real problem 😔 the dickhead husband of my favourite aunt is a bit like this - he can cook some very basic meals and a couple of overspiced dishes. But it doesn't matter how sick his wife is, he cooks when he feels like it (esp if there are guests to show off to), but she is expected to always cook. Really grinds my gears. Your old man might need a bit of a slap in the face about the reality of the situation...
It felt a bit like this when I was working on my thesis preso yesterday. Does any of this matter? Maybe we will be in WW3 by the end of this week. Whatever...
No idea. Maybe he's just used to doing it with his own car (which is much older, presumably like my old car - has no auto lights and lights don't switch off when the ignition is off). But really, bad design to begin with. Just have an auto lights option, Subaru!
That's what I thought, hell, even my old 2011 hatchback has auto lights but this damn car does not have it as an option. Behold:
Why??!! And you'd think the solution is to then leave it set to on all the time (as the lights switch off when the car is turned off anyway), but some fool at work keeps changing it back to off grrr
My turn to be out on the Bellarine today for work. Ccccold. Wimdy
Also wish I could just hop over the bay it would be so much faster. Not looking forward to the 1.5hr drive back.
On a related note, why the fuck does a modern SUV (2022) with all the driver assist shit not have automatic lights, with the lit-up display I nearly started driving without my lights on while it was dark out. Idiotic
I love these little dudes, they're so beautiful when they're perched sideways or even upside down sometimes drinking nectar from the long-necked flowers.
Alright, here goes another attempt at trying to push through some uni stuff on a weekend. Was out for a chunk of yesterday helping a relative which was good - physical activity that got me out of the house and had a very good night's sleep. I've been religiously taking melatonin 0.3mg for over a week, normally I wouldn't but it's crunch time and I absolutely need to make sure I'm not falling asleep at 2am.
Had a brief squiz at the news and once again I am feeling extremely lucky to be in a place that's physically far from conflict... but I think we can all expect petrol prices to shoot up in a few weeks (also, huge bump in electricity prices from 1 July D: that will be after my thesis is due so it's a good point at which to return to my frugal ways)
I definitely do this at home. I like not having my fingers all greasy if I want to use the tv remote or phone. Also a must when I'm eating while working on other stuff
