All I know is that the Democrats and Biden are trying to push school debt forgiveness to larger groups, and it’s the GOP who consistently blocks it. I didn’t see any GOP pushback for welfare.. err PPP “loans” to businesses though

  • You mean in the couple months that the democrats controlled all three branches of government in the past 20 years? During that time we got the ACA. Vote blue across the board in November to have a chance at getting all three branches blue again to actually accomplish something.

  • This thread exemplifies the little naive echo chamber you”Biden needs to step down” people are in. There’s no scenario where any other candidate can do better this late in the election. This is “Bernie or Bust” all over again.

Interestingly, many of the talking points have shifted from “Genocide Joe” to this. Nothing more than the next wave of disinformation joined by a bunch of naive people who don’t know how far off their opinions are from the rest of the country.

  • Problem is that the Uber wealthy have all sorts of extra tax vehicles that even the 400k/year income folks don’t have. With various holding companies owning the various assets you use (e.g your car, house, etc.) your on-paper income can be quite a bit lower. Throw in various deductions and that’s how you get super wealthy people paying less taxes than “regular” people. Progressive tax rates already exist, and while this increases the percentage at these incomes, unless it addresses all the other loopholes, this will conveniently miss the 1% and instead impact high earning professionals.

  • In the US you could absolutely fall into a new range where certain deductions no longer apply, so you could make that extra little bit of income, then lose out on deductions totaling more than your increased income.

It’s not as simple as the progressive tax brackets look at first glance.
