  • That is one bullshit headline. Forbes keeping the AI pump and dump scheme going.

TLDR: People correctly discerned that written responses were from an "AI" chatbot slightly less often than they correctly discerned that responses were from a psychotherapist.

"AI" cannot replace a therapist and hasn't "won" squat.

  • VPN's can further limit your bandwidth. Encryption and decryption require a lot of processing overhead. Something to be mindful of if you're self hosting a VPN. I think my Mikrotik (dual core ARM) maxes out around 250 Mbps.

  • I swiped right ngl

  • Oof. That hits in the feels a little. I've told my wife that I hope she outlives me. Maybe it's a little selfish in a way but I honestly think she could handle being alone better than I could. She's like my center of gravity. The person who keeps me grounded. I'm not sure what I would do without her.

  • Hope the rest of Europe is preparing for WWIII because there's no way Russia actually backs down without a decisive loss. On the upside, I think any direct military action by the US would be hugely unpopular domestically. Even with the brainwashed fucktards. That doesn't mean we're not going to make a huge mess indirectly. I am very sorry in advance.

  • Ah. So they do recognize the problem and are going with the worst possible strategy.

Trying to compete in the field of "digital landfills", which is already completely saturated, seems like an incredibly stupid idea but what do I know.

  • Huffman and Co. are apparently oblivious to the fact that Reddit is and has always been a niche "social media" platform. They're more closely related to forums than mainstream social media.

I'm just making wild assertions here but somehow I think that the thing I liked about Reddit is also the thing the average TikTok/Insta/Snapchat/Facebook user does not like. That being that Reddit is mostly text based and requires lots of reading and writing (if you want to interact on any meaningful way). The only other thing they offer is meme scrolling and that can be done pretty much anywhere.

Adding any substantial user growth would require basically abandoning their entire format and would have a minimal chance of success at best.

  • One Drive works fine 98% of the time. But the 2% of the time it doesn't can make a huge mess. I've lost an entire days worth of work on an Excel workbook due to auto save issues and it's happened more than once. The last time it happened was the last straw. That's when I switched back to an SMB share.

  • I let a classmate of mine borrow my car. She asked if she could use it to run a quick errand. I was just trying to be nice. I didn't know her parents had grounded her from driving or that the school had a policy against letting other students use your vehicle. In hindsight it probably wasn't a smart idea but I was 17 so I didn't think about it that much.

A simple, "please don't do that again" would have been more than sufficient but instead I got a two day suspension.

  • Don't be too sure. The GOP started replacing their platform with just sheer obstructionism and scapegoating [minorities] in the 1990's. They've spent the last 30 years showing the public that they have no intention of "leading" and yet they now control the US government.

  • About 12 years ago, I promised an agent at Safeco (AKA Liberty Mutual) that they would never get another penny from me because they wouldn't honor the terms of my policy, refusing to pay the full amount on a vehicle collision claim. They're just another business that doesn't keep their word. But I absolutely plan to keep mine.

  • PM: "How long is developing this feature going to take?"

Me: "Due to all the refactoring that's needed --which I've been repeatedly bringing up for two years -- just to implement it, it's going to take about 6 months."

PM: "Is there any way you can have it ready for the release in two weeks?"

    Me: "No."

PM: Proceeds to tell everyone that it will be ready for the release in two weeks.
