I love it.

Yeah he should've said what he said more tactfully. But sometimes one's most controversial comments are ones that one wouldn't have thought would get a lot of attention at all.

I think perhaps the place we might agree is: rename marriage to civil union in law (and therefore there is no legal "marriage".) Colloquially we'll still call it marriage anyway and nobody can really stop that.

I don't believe those indie developers have any patents.

I don't really agree with this. That could be how it is in your area, but in my area, a lot of LGBT people rather fancy getting married. I have seen two of my gay relatives get married, for instance. (Not to each other, mind you.) I wouldn't mind getting married myself one day, but it's not at the top of my list.

I think of it like this: I still do Christmas, even though I'm not religious -- I was raised Jewish in fact -- because it's a secular holiday at this point. I think of marriage as a secular tradition.

Wear a button that says "I'm approachable!"

Well, it's worth leveraging your status to communicate to the politicians (i.e. this tweet). In this case, it cost him more than I think he was expecting.

I am sad because of all the people in this thread who think the CEO is "fascist-sympathetic" because he said Trump did something better than the Democrats one time.

Their CEO approved of an appointment Trump made, and criticized Dem on the issue -- doesn't make him a Trump supporter. If we can't tell the Dems off when we think the GOP does better, how can we proceed?

So you're suggesting the headline should read:

Yemen declares air blockade against Palestine

Obviously that's absurd -- Israel is not the wrong name for Palestine. You don't have to recognize Israel as a legitimate state to see these are different concepts. You don't even have to believe it exists to see that's absurd. Though of course, it does exist -- Israel is a real, actual settler colony that is illegitimately occupying Palestine.

We refer to non-real things without quotes all the time, e.g. magic, not '"magic".'

Very effective at translating between different (human) languages. Best if you can find a native speaker to double-check the output. Failing that, reverse translate with a couple different models to verify the meaning is preserved. Even this sometimes fails though -- e.g. two words with similar but subtly different definitions might trip you up. For instance, I'm told "the west" refers to different regions in english and japanese, but translating and reverse translating didn't reveal this error.
