  • wow. the fact that they're finding these chemicals in Placental and Amniotic fluid is nuts

And then the chemicals themselves are just... a list of some very nasty things

I'm reminded of the Propublica article that blew the lid off the fact that 3M's PFAS accumulates in our tissues and causes cancer.

At the time, Johnson said, he didn’t think PFOS caused significant health problems. Still, he told me, “it was obviously bad,” because man-made compounds from household products didn’t belong in the human body. He said that he argued against using fluorochemicals in toothpaste and diapers. (...) “These idiots were already putting it in food packaging,” he said.

  • Maddrey said the officers followed the man, each firing a Taser which proved ineffective in subduing the man. He then exited the train while it was still at the station and charged the officers with the knife, the chief said.

it was the next sentence from what you copied lol

  • qualified immunity says there's no specific law or statute saying you can't fire indiscriminately into a crowd of people whilst attempting to "apprehend" someone suspected of not paying their $2.90 subway fare.... so they'll be let off with a warning and a nice long paid vacation. Maybe the victims will get some token amount...

Oh wait, you didn't even mention the cops getting punished, I guess it's just a given at this point that they won't be. We see a headline these days about cops shooting innocent people and we can't suspend disbelief long enough to even imagine the cops getting punished.

    America!

  • This past Saturday I drove 9 hours (one way) to confront and yell at the family rapist.

Had him and the rest of my family texting and calling frantically, telling me not to. That I was destroying the family, that I'd never see my cousins again, that I'd be arrested, that there would be a sheriffs deputy waiting to take me to jail if I showed up at the pedophiles house.

But on the way up I just happened to listen to an NPR story about the murders in Castle Rock Colorado and how police refused to enforce a restraining order that resulted in the murder of three children, and then the subsequent trial that ended up with the supreme court saying that "cops have no duty to enforce a restraining order." and then the story of Joe Lozito, the subway hero who sued the police dept. for failing to protect him and his fellow passengers from a knife-wielding spree killer they were on that train, specifically to look for. That case resulted in the supreme court saying that "the police have no duty to protect you."

So with that information, I decided that it was unlikely that 1. a pedophile rapist would call the police for help because his victim was coming to yell at him, and 2. that a cop, even if called, would show up at all.

I yelled at that bitch while he sat in his mansion for 20 minutes at the top of my lungs. His new neighbors must have some thoughts 😊

  • I've been dealing with this for a while now. Family kicked me out of the house for supporting Bernie Sanders at one point. It sucks, because I love them very much, but they're Racist with a capital R and die-hard republicans who worship drumpf. Every time we talked they would bait me with their BS, and even when we're NOT talking about politics, it seems every gap in conversation is punctuated with all the vile things they're trying not to say.

My therapist had some great advice. Said that if I value a relationship with them, then the price for having that relationship is never discussing politics.

I'm willing to pay that price, so I told them not to bring it up anymore, and I'll do the same. It's working for the most part, though that doesn't stop other issues from coming up. But hey, that's life! Wouldn't be relatives if they didn't frustrate you endlessly, I guess?

  • Nobody but republicans are voting for genocide. Everyone with a conscious and brain are voting for the lesser of two evils because that's the only choice we have. You're inflammatory BS does nothing but make you seem more fringe, less thoughtful, and therefore easier to ignore.

  • Why does it need to be equal to population?

Because I was responding to the previous commenter that cited specifically those numbers.

I get what you're saying, that other cultures are not as tolerant, and when said culture pops up in a previously tolerant area, it can cause tensions. To that I'd say that we have a system of government enforcing laws in a uniform manner across a region precisely because not everyone agrees uniformly. You can't strip away the freedom to be wrong, you can only enforce rules that support equity, safety, and inclusion, and do so especially within local populations that seem to eschew it.

But also, not all migrants are intolerant. So assuming that they 1. are, and 2. will stay that way, is a xenophobic dog whistle.
