1995? For me, personally, I'd say some things are better, some are worse. I was struggling to get by on $8.60 an hour back then, couldn't live on my own so I had a room-mate. I was still a year away from the tech job that would crack open my real career and bring me where I am today.

1996 - first tech job, income doubled+ overnight. Got my own first place. Commuting between Portland and Chicago every 2 weeks for a year. Feels like that was when my life really started.

2025? Still working in tech, married 14 years, 6 figure salary, bought a house 4 years ago. OTOH - 2 heart attacks, congestive heart failure, cancer scare in the past 2 weeks. Looks like they got it all, but I need to back in 6 months for a re-check.

We acknowledge all calls to violence that get reported to us. Nobody gets left out.

Here's the problem from a lemmy user perspective:

Most of the calls for violence come from the anti-fascists. Whether it's anti-cop, anti-corpo, anti-billionaire, anti-Trump, anti-Israel, etc. That shit gets reported and shut down and it's probably 98% of what gets removed. 95% of it is a single user who gets banned over, and over, and over.

The other probably 2% is pro-Russia, pro-China, Ukrainian/Uighur genocide denial, but most users never see that angle on it.

Very little of it is pro-Israel, rah, rah kill all the Palestinians. I think they know better than to come here and start that shit. I have removed and banned some of it, but it's a tiny, tiny minority of what gets reported.

So if you look at the modlog, you're going to see a lot of removals and bans on the anti-fascist front, because they're the ones coming here starting shit against the rules and refuse to be told "No."

Video gaming or tabletop gaming?

For tabletop, I recently discovered "The Land of Eem" and it looks like the definition of "Cosy".

YouTube, Discord, it's all over the place. Described as "Lord of the Rings With Muppets".

Issac Asimov used to tell the story that when he came here as a child from Russia, one of the first things he saw was a billboard that said "Eat too much? Drink too much? Pepto Bismol!"

It blew his mind that he was entering a country where a) it was even possible to eat or drink too much, b) that it was a problem, and c) that it was a big enough problem there was something you could take for it.

Same with Doctor Who... it's not a franchise FOR kids, it's a scifi/fantasy franchise that kids CAN enjoy.

Only place it makes sense is Hawaii because it's all shipped in and there's not enough land to supply local stuff to everybody.
