  • Because their war crimes already killed the other half? 🤔

  • ? I thought the US was when Trump agreed to pull out and turn it over to them?

  • It's not that they failed to show up in '24, it's that the '20 numbers were inflated by generous vote by mail rules due to covid restrictions.

Following '20, Republicans became TERRIFIED of vote by mail, because they know they're outnumbered and the more people vote, the worse it gets for them.

So they took steps between '20 and '24 to restrict vote by mail. I was telling everyone to expect a lower turnout, everyone is blaming everything except the obvious: Making it easier to vote gets more people to vote.

  • Just got this email, waiting for the "leopards eating faces" moment:

    From: subscription.service@subscriptions.ssa.gov

"Social Security Applauds Passage of Legislation Providing Historic Tax Relief for Seniors

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation's economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned."

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. Additionally, it provides an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they have earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them."

  • "I would love to give you an honest answer to that question, but I'm afraid our corporate lawyers just won't allow it."

LOL. From a book called "Idiot Letters". Guy got a card in the mail from Pizza Hut reading "It's come to our attention that it's been some time since you enjoyed a Pizza Hut pizza, and that concerns us, because you're the kind of customer we'd like to see more often."

To which he responded: "What kind of customer WOULDN'T you like to see more often?"

    Response above.

  • They were siezed over 10x the distance from Israeli waters where Israel had no jurisdiction.

"The Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which organized the latest ship, says the Madleen was intercepted in international waters some 200 kilometers (124 miles) off the coast of Gaza, a claim that could not be independently verified. Israeli authorities have not disclosed the location where the ship was halted.

Robbie Sabel, an international law expert and former legal adviser to the Israeli Foreign Ministry, said the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea stipulates that a state only has jurisdiction up to 12 nautical miles (19 kilometers) from its shores."

  • They were removed at gunpoint from international waters, taken to a country they had no intention of entering, and then were told they had no right to be there and ejected.

That's pretty much the textbook definition of abduction. If someone holds you at gunpoint, takes you to a second location, even if they release you would you not call that "abduction"?

Obligatory "Never let them take you to a second location."

  • Are we still blaming Harambe? Feels accurate.

  • It's going to be really bad this time, and I was watching the talking heads on the news discounting the CBO report by saying "Naw, naw, it's cool... see it's going to cause economic growth... everything is going to be fine!"

And I'm like "That's a lie, and it was a lie when Reagan said it 45 years ago. It's NEVER ONCE worked out that way."

But nobody in the media is willing to follow up with that question: "So why didn't the growth happen all the other times we tried this?"

  • !world@lemmy.world does require articles be recent news, within the last 30 days, so I'm hard pressed to see how a history lesson going back decades qualifies.

But since the date on the article IS "29 Jun 2025", and that is within our requirement, I'll allow it for now, another mod may not, but eh, it is what it is.

There also seems (to me) to be a lot missing here. Like that time they tried to assasinate the US Ambassador to Lebanon.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Gunther_Dean

    https://www.wrmea.org/2002-november/american-ambassador-recalls-israeli-assassination-attempt-with-u.s.-weapons.html

"Picked up by Lebanese security, the anti-tank canisters had made-in-America markings. After unanswered telegrams to the State Department and all but silent responses to his telephone inquiries, Dean eventually learned that the anti-tank weapons were sold and shipped to Israel in 1974. Dean apparently mused to himself on the irony of an American ambassador being subjected to an Israeli assassination attempt with American weapons supplied to Israel for defense."

  • Biden's primary problem was that he could not comprehend where the criticism was coming from and would re-frame it in such a way as to absolve responsibility.

Look at the complaints about the Afghanistan evacuation. It was COMPLETELY fucked up and fucked up in ways that were 100% self inflicted.

People tried to tell him, Guam offered to help evacuate civilians, it was all denied under the black and white premise of "Well, we can't stay, we have to get out, what do you want from me?"

Nobody is saying "stay", we're saying look at the order of operations. Can we please get all the civilians out first? Apparently nobody thought of that. Can we not leave behind any usable gear for the Taliban to take over? Yeah, nobody thought of that either.

Look at the complaints about inflation and the economy. Outright denial there was even a problem. Clinton could have told him "It's the economy, stupid!" Biden? "What are you talking about, Jack? We have the best economy in the world! In... the... WOOOOORRLLLLD!"

  • We don't allow editorialized headlines. If you fix it, we can restore it.

"Paramount to pay Trump $16m to settle 60 Minutes lawsuit"

  • As usual, lots of rumor and speculation. Some folks were saying it was a plane crash (which was debunked). Some are saying arson, but we just don't know yet.

But come on, it's a fireworks warehouse... Probably wouldn't take much...

  • As they dig their claws into your leg to better launch themselves off the bed...

  • For point 1, this sounds like a class action waiting to happen.

You buy a Nintendo console, Nintendo says you broke the rules and bans that console, now non-Nintendo games won't work on it because it's banned from reaching online services.
