  • You can just take a look at the links in the thread if you want to start testing, and can help report issues with your experiences in our Pagure repo, I still need to report mine to mnow if it's a thing with GDM or if I just did something wrong

  • Anyone even slightly interested in this, join!

Seriously, I didn't know jack about SELinux before joining the SIG and now I know a little less than jack about it (I tried confining my user and managed to be unable to login to my system)

  • Although most of the praise in the article actually goes to the improvements in GNOME, it's always great to see Linux getting high praise on more "mainstream" news sources. ZDNet is more techy than normal, but still reaches a wider audience than Linux-specific articles.

  • If you stick to Flatpak apps you don't even need the codecs on your base system (I've been using it myself this way for a while now). For power management, I personally prefer to layer powertop, which doesn't break power-profiles-daemon and works basically just as well as tlp, but layering tlp is perfectly fine too.

The custom kernel though, that's more complicated (and an understandable limitation to immutability), I'd recommend you look into Universal Blue in your case, as it might be a better solution.

  • Flathub comes out of the box since F38 and with it you basically don't need RPMFusion and third party codecs. Even NVIDIA you can get out of the box without the need for the entirety of RPMFusion (which is what I personally do).

  • The cons for Silverblue aren't really fair, you can customize the GNOME desktop at will installing Extension Manager from Flathub, and a lot of CLI tools you'd layer you can get working through toolbx/distrobox, and barebones GNOME is literally the same as stock Fedora.

  • The Anaconda redesign has been on the works since Fedora 36, it's bound to come as the default for Fedora Workstation 39. Also, you couldn't be more wrong about the telemetry proposal even if you tried. The people that work at RedHat aren't this idea of the EvIL REd HaT HiGhER UpS that you have in your mind. They are contributors just like any other volunteer in the project.
