I was born in 1980, the last year in what qualifies as gen X. Personally I feel my reading has increased in my 30s and 40s as I've grown bored of video games. I also work in tech, have no children, and have fallen into a pretty easy and comfortable life by current standards. I have time to spend on reading.
But, if I consider my male friends (some who proudly claim to not read books), I see that they're all busier than they where 15 years ago as they're now in the advance stages of their careers (not to mention they have children). I do think the workload expected of a professional has increased since the boomers where in the same position, and this demand is reducing the time people have to read. If I'm right, we would see gen Z readership also start to drop as their careers progress.
