  • According to pricecharting.com my video game collection is worth in the neighborhood of $20k. Now, this is kind of bullshit for a few reasons, many of which come down to "just because it says the games are worth that much doesn't mean you could actually get that much by selling them." And I have no intention of selling anyway...i use pricecharting to track what I have, not for the supposed value. But it's surprising to see such a high number considering there's not a ton in my collection in terms of super rare stuff...the highest value things I own are ~$200.

  • It's fairly inefficient and less convenient than a dedicated electric kettle, but no there's nothing wrong with the results. I did pick up a cheap electric kettle recently and it's nice, but doesn't get a ton of use since I don't drink that much tea.

  • I think ounces to lbs is the one that gets me, because we regularly talk about half and quarter pounds so 16 to 1 is just weird. Also fl oz to cups is 8 to 1 so...

Frankly I just avoid ounces if at all possible. It's a shitty unit. Run into it in cooking a lot though. Personally, when I record most of my recipes in my recipe app, I use metric. It makes math a lot easier.

  • And yet the reaction from certain conservative states is to try to find ways to disqualify Biden. The Fourteenth Amendment was voted in under a particular set of circumstances and whether it applies here is unclear. This will ultimately undoubtedly go to the Supreme Court.

  • I would note that this has nothing to do with any of those indictments. The Georgia charges stem from attempts to overturn the election results, not from Jan 6. There is nothing disallowing criminals to run for or serve as president. One could argue that in a free democracy it's very important that criminals be allowed to run, to prevent the law being wielded as a cudgel against political opponents.

  • Really mixed feelings on this. I think the legal argument probably has merit, although I am not a lawyer. I quite hate Trump, and think there will be negative consequences (possibly very scary!) if he wins. But I do not think that elections in America should be won in the courts.

Edit: I think today is the day I block /c/politics

  • Repost bots (and repost top comment bots) are pretty rampant. A lot of subs have changed pretty significantly because their entire mod team left. In general I get the sense it's a lot more people now who consider reddit "social media" compared to before. Site isn't dead for sure but it's gone down in quality significantly.

  • Yeah, it's funny, I've replaced almost all of my silverware but I still have a couple of spoons that are from the set my parents had when I was growing up. It's an oddly nostalgic thing.
