  • Trusting other peoples identification and authorizattion isnt about sharing accounts and passwords. If user A of server X want to log in at server Y, server Y asks server X if it knows this user A. If so server X handles the password/mfa check and just gives the green light to server Y.

  • Sorry but I fail to understand the relation between your question and the additional text.

Are the bulletpoints requirements for a less over-engineered attempt ?

Or are they examples of the current situation?

And just software without protocol seems. .... oversimplification.

  • Choice is never a bad thing. ...

In this context maybe but overall after a certain level of possible outcomes, choice doesnt cause more happiness but anxiety and "choice-stress".

  • 4 months now, Debian Gnome. Its on a laptop from work. Knowing what I want and how to secure things they gave me local admin rigths on Win11 to convert the device to dual boot. Slowly getting to know my way around.

  • I had a security download (but not yet installed) ready yesterday. Logged off without installing. Turned on my device today and couldnt log in. Checked my pwd 3 times before seeing "authentication service not working " iirc.

After reboot it installed and logging in worked.

Is this related or not and is it expected? Not being able to log in without a mandatory patch first so to say?

  • Also just to add: Using an Oculus Quest (at least without the "for business" variant) for work related use cases within EU poses risc for:

    • business continuity when used with fake Meta accounts to have a kiosk mode and rotate devices among personnel
    • GDPR because Meta doesnt sign proper DPA’s
