because people use. At the end of the day FB and other social media sites are about talking to and connecting to other people. Since lots of people us FB it makes it an easy way to connect. In other words, it is popular because it is big and it is big becasue it is popular.

Plus something about authoritarians that few realize. Many don't want to be the dictator. They just want the man in charge to be in charge. Debate is weakness, it's slow, and shows doubt. Democracy is just a means to an end.

Currently sec 230 treats websites as not responsible for user generated content. Example, if I made a video defaming someone I get sued but YouTube is in the clear. But if The New York Times publishes an article defaming someone they get sued not just the writer.

Why? Because NYT published that article but YouTube just hosts it. This publisher platform distinction is not stated in section 230 but it is part of usa law.

Yeah i have made that argument before. By pushing content via user recommended lists and auto play YouTube becomes a publisher and meeds to be held accountable

yes more then once. Most recently the supreme court ruled you can't bring new evidence to an areal. Why? because it would undermine the state right to be sure of their decision. Also note that the most successful way to win an appeal on a criminal case was to bring new evidence that showed your defense did not do their job or the prosecution withheld evidence that showed your innocence.
