  • I thought that was the Heterosexual Pride Flag? You know, blue for a man, pink for a woman, and white for the purity of God's love between them.
    .
    ;)

  • You have no idea how apropos this is to an argument I'm current embroiled in.

  • I've been curious about going "both ways", but never acted upon it... ;)

  • I guess I did follow people on Twitter, I had friends there....then Musk made it weird...

  • I gave Mastodon a look when Twitter started to get all "Musky". I wound up going with Counter.Social in the end.

  • Having tried both, I think I prefer Lemmy

  • Spray expanding foam would be easiest and you can trim it after the fact for a cleaner look.

  • I know it's a joke but, what's disturbing is that I also know there's probably a market for them....

  • Wound up creating a Lemmy account as well as this one. Still getting accustomed to it but it appears that, instead of relying solely on the mods to manage content, more control is given to the end user. As long as I can easily block trolls and other content I don't care for, I'm good.

On the other hand, where FB is concerned, you just can't make it go away. I'm stuck with that account because of events and messages but looking for work-arounds for both.

  • Golly, who could have imagined that some charismatic sociopath spreading conspiracy theories would feign remorse in court to reduce his sentence?

  • On FB, I generally only post to "Friends" or "Close Friends". Yet, I keep getting these "Suggested for You" posts in my feed. Some are advertisers, many are clearly from bot-farms trying to start arguments. I mean, the Fediverse may have it's bad actors, but not on the coordinated scale that Facebook has.

  • To be honest, I don't really know much about the people behind either of these sites. That being said, Jester is pretty active on CoSo. I originally gave CoSo a try because Twitter was beginning to go downhill and I was looking for an alternative. I tried a few, CoSo had a lot of neat features and impressed me enough that I was even willing to pay the 4.99/month for the "Pro Account".

As for this site (kbin.social), I was looking for a Reddit alternative. This site reminds me of what Reddit used to be and, for that reason, looked better than Reddit does these days. I known nothing of Lemmy and had never even heard of it (him?) before finding this site.

In both cases, you just don't see the bot-farm-generated trolling that loads up the mainstream sites. The stuff that's just out there to get us arguing with each other. Also nice to not see endless ads. Maybe not completely free of trolls, etc., but, since it's not as prevalent, it's easier to filter out.

  • Let's see, Debian 12 is impressive. I got that running on my ancient PC in my home office. For a long time, Mint was my go-to recommendation for a new Linux user and I ran it on my main PC for years. Although, with Canonical (Ubuntu) going the way they're going, I'd have probably switched from MInt to LMDE by now if I stayed with it. For that matter, MXLinux is an excellent Debian based distro but, Debian 12 being as good as it is, I think I'd still go with Debian 12 today. If I were setting up PCs for use by students or some other group, I think I'd go with Fedora (assuming the whole kerfuffle with RHEL doesn't impact it).

....these days, on my personal "daily driver" PC, I run EndeavourOS. It's basically Arch but easy to install and very nicely set up out of the gate. Friendlier community than Arch as well. It's basically Arch for people who don't need to go minimalist on the install and/or flex about installing Arch.

  • Arch has the best package management to be sure. For a "Daily Driver" setup, I'd recommend EndeavourOS. It's basically Arch with much easier setup, some useful tools (that you can choose to use or not), and very well set up for a daily use PC out of the gate. I've used both. Arch is nice, but EndeavourOS is what I run on my "Daily Driver" PC.

  • I think this site and Counter.Social are working out to be my primary online haunts these days...

  • One does not simply drop random LOTR references into threads ;)

  • Since the Twitter "kerfuffle", this is one of the best new social media sites I've found.

  • I guess I'm a "casual gamer" and I tend to avoid games using anti-cheat (not clear on how much access to my computer I'm giving that software). So far, for me, the games have "just worked". I'm even alpha testing a new game (Palia) in Lutris and it seems to be working just fine.

  • I've explained it this way; If Windows is an "Automatic" and, say, Arch is a "Stick Shift", then MInt is a "Paddle Shift". You can drive it around like an automatic all day but, if you want direct access to the gear box, it's right under your fingertips.
