  • No, no, it does work, but it depends on the size of your library

  • rule

    Jump
  • I hardly use it these days for anything except to follow a number of tabletop RPG/wargame crafters that post videos there, and for that there is just no substitute

  • Revolt, can be self-hosted and all, not federated

  • The "distro" I've been eyeing is Snikket since it's all in one with batteries included, it's only notorious lack is bridges which is the reason i didn't jump into it right away when i saw it (LOTS of contacts on WhatsApp, some on other Zuckerberg properties, so will likely need to do it, let's see if the recent EU legislation leads to force them into interoperativity)

  • I think my doubt was less "Can they do it?" (as i believe they can, should have in mind the transcoding limitation as i didn't knew) and more "SHOULD you do it?" given that it's gonna be filled with movies/series/whatever, and it's still a megacorp product

  • And yet again i feel like XMPP is the way to go, but depends on setting up a server and managing it, i for one don't feel like managing servers in my free time, i do that at work all day 😅

  • What of the alternatives like Matrix or XMPP? I haven't explored these well yet, is it easy to have multiple profiles with those?

  • I've used one of those Synology devices for something at work and really liked the interface and all that, everything worked well and without issues and with minimal admin required (which is my main issue, i don't really wanna admin stuff in my free time), but will that work when what you want is to set up a NAS media server thing full of downloaded stuff despite being a commercial thing that may or may not phone home at some point in our sad enshittocene? I do believe it works for this but haven't heard much in this community related to this, it's usually people advocating to set up a normal machine as a NAS

  • It was already playing it my head just by seeing that question 😂

  • Missing: instant preview. If the implementation is just syncing a file, then that works, otherwise it's the same thing

  • Ah, i misunderstood, yeah, there's got to be some rigging in that demo pic now that you mention it, however if Moissanite is essentially a drop-in replacement for diamonds in jewelry that is cheaper and looks even slightly nicer, which seems to be the case, then all should be well, doubly so if it kills the profits of De Beers. I'd ask to see the contrast IN PERSON if i was shopping for rings today though, nothing beats that.

  • For a few years I've saved this pic from previous similar posts in various places, no need even for freaking diamonds

  • Had typed a long response and it went away, let's try again... 😅

So, been lately in a Castlevania binge (Metroidvanias only, I've always sucked at the platforming ones) and there's a nice group of games there, you beat Aria, now try Dawn which happens a year later, a very rare direct sequel among these. Then there's Harmony of Dissonance, Circle of the Moon if you're into that one (I'm lukewarm on this one), Dawn as mentioned, Portrait of Ruin and Order of Ecclessia, and of course the grandaddy of them all, Symphony of the Night. All these are FREAKING FULL of achievements on Retroachievements, unlike the officially released versions on Steam with the Advance and Dominus collections, which only have a tiny handful for each game. Retroachievements has like 5 to 10 times the achievements for games, every achievement on the official releases is in Retroachievements, along with A LOT of ones not covered. Even tiny little missable details like this one on Symphony which I've always loved. It also has achievements for the nutcases like speedrunning ones or the "Defeat X with no damage and without using so and so item".

Just make sure the emulator and retroachievements recognize it, i'll have to redo Portrait at some point because it never recognized it as Portrait for some reason (ROM issues or something?)

And of course, once you're done with these, there's Bloodstained, the Castlevaina not Castlevania, quite fun and with the right vibe!

  • And now the upcoming administration wants to privatize even MORE shit

  • Since you mentioned it days ago I've been thinking it, would i be OK with those if the sound was normalized? Been actually checking it, normalizing audio on clips and seeing if i am now OK with those. And the answer continues to be a no. Why? Because IT'S AN AD. It's an ad for the enshittified, cancerous social media platform it came from. Put creator watermarks in the video itself like so many already do, then chop off those COMPLETELY unnecessary ads for tikitocs or Zuckergram, and we'll be better off and missing nothing.
