  • I'm just mentioning it because I think that toilet paper as a single use item billions of people use at least daily is a much bigger issue of wasting trees than books - which last for decades and are very useful

There are modern toilets with integrated automated bidets and dryers. But they are unfortunately a bit expensive.

  • Not necessarily. A 40 tonne lorry damages the motorway as much as 1000 160'000 passenger cars. It will lead to the state having to renew the road surfaces every few years. Rails don't have that problem, they'll happily take 100 tonnes for decades.

  • What is delusional is calling a token generator intelligent. These programs don't know what the input is, nor do they understand what they put out. They "know" that after this sequence of tokens, what a likely successive token is based on previously supplied data.

They understand nothing. They generate nothing new. They don't think. They are not intelligent.

They are very cool, very impressive and quite useful. But intelligent? Pffffffh

  • Yes, I am aware that this is the prevalent misconception in the USA. If you spoke more than one language you'd quickly realise this is not the case in the rest of the world. For example, your demonym in Spanish is Estadounidense, which means Unitedstatesian. In German it is US-Amerikaner, the meaning of which you can probably understand. The demonyms are such because they understand that the USA are a subset of America.
