I'm tired of the crazed notion that middle age women who oppose vaccination are somehow crypto-fascists, who are secretly working to advance the interests of the National Front and Action Zealandia. It's a Reddit fantasy that only exists because of the echo chamber in /r/newzealand where nobody can challenge their stupid views without being banned.
There are people on Reddit who think that Carl Bromley and Lee Williams are Nazis. These are just angry old men with out-dated views, who put all their energy into venting online, or trying to start movements that just die off after 6 months.
The overton window has shifted towards anti-immigration. 2 years ago anyone who's even slightly critical of immigration would've been called a fascist. But on Reddit this week, there was an anti-immigration thread that has 200+ upvotes. The person said that if we don't stop immigration, then housing will stay expensive forever, because the government can just bring in immigrants to fill new houses and apartments. This is bad for our country and it shouldn't matter what the tone is. Immigration just sucks and everyone knows this regardless of what they believe or who they vote for. I live in a shared house and earlier this year a whole Indian family moved in, with the screaming kid, her parents, and even the grandparents. I don't hate these people personally, but man do they talk loud outside my door after 11pm at night. They are like the Gypsies of the South Pacific. Always having a loud conversation and bringing their family woes into the ears of other tenants, as if they owned the entire house just because they rented 2 of the rooms.
I think it's time we realised that immigration is unsustainable. It just pisses me off at a personal level, I don't even need an ideology or a political viewpoint to be annoyed. Nobody understands this until you have to live with a child that was spawned from another man's cock, and the kid is banging on walls and crying right outside your stock hardware store bedroom door. It's unbearable, and it'll only get worse. Time to wipe off that **** eating grin New Zealand. You've got bigger problems than obscure political groups that mainly exist online.
There is a massively weird discourse in this country that exists on Reddit and Twitter - a big obsession with what online groups are supposedly planning. There are claims that far-right groups in NZ are preparing terrorist attacks, and that people have planned car bomb attacks (but without having a bomb or any means of making one). Then Kyle Chapman was arrested for owning a gun, but he's not even a part of any far-right group. Some Reddit Karen will somehow connect Kyle to a group though, and claim that the Rob Gray Life Centre is a terrorist training hub. Rangi Kemara is already suggesting this online because yes he really is that stupid, just another angry liberal on the internet spouting unfounded opinions.
There is no coordinated right-wing group that is taking over political parties and changing the discourse of society, things like anti-immigration sentiment are just occurring naturally as people learn the truth.
As a redditor would say:
I am LITERALLY for open borders and ethnic restaurants (Masala Dosa, YUM!) but I am honestly against unlimited immigration of 100,000 people per year, it's literally destroying the housing market for my whole generation!!!!1
"the jews are the real nazis"
I don't understand how Action Zealandia or Voices For Freedom will get National elected. You might want to look at what these groups believe, it's usually the opposite of what National, Act and NZ First want.
Saw this earlier. Decided it wasn't worth reading another "odd stuff" article. Still won't read it after seeing it here.
These employers don't seem to care about the safety and dignity of staff either. After high school, a friend worked as a builder and he had to install pink batts without any protective gear, so he was itching like a p-head for days. I tried installing pink batts in an attic once. My goggles fogged up and I couldn't see a damned thing.
They focus on renters rights but I wish they'd do more about having a proper housing market. You know, complete with competition and stuff like that.
Sure, but Renters United isn't active in Christchurch. I'm not aware of any local events they're promoting. As far as I'm aware, nobody is even attending council meetings or community discussions that are often held at churches.
I'll support vandalism if they spray paint Parliament and glue their hands to the doors at Parliament, so that MPs can't get to work. Until that happens I won't take this group seriously.
You know Dave, I've just been emailing Christchurch councillors and I've had a few responses. I'm pretty good at getting information and finding out where to get press reports and stuff like that, but I struggle to understand the council. I don't know how I can oppose these residents' associations and I'm just learning that stuff now. We need a group that will make democracy accessible for someone who works 6 days a week, who can't attend most meetings.
These ultra-leftwing groups are just fecking dumb. I'm in favour of having apartments and cycleways and proper public transport, but I'd never agree to help the kind of activities which Restore Passenger Rail is engaged in. There are meetings at the local council that I could be protesting but I usually find out at the last minute, or after it's too late. Meanwhile, a death cult is attacking a business over an alarmist prophecy.
They could be helping me do something useful, like pry boomers away and stop them from corrupting the council.
I guess they've got the time.
So are level 4 lockdown is cool with you?
lol, this will appeal to angry teenagers but good luck on them convincing anyone who has life experience.
I won't be supporting the next lockdown or mask mandate.
Computers last longer than 5 years, if you get a desktop PC and have RAM or motherboard replaced when it dies.
I'm in favour of public transport, but these people are an embarrassment. I've told them that civil disobedience is great, but please don't block roads. I suggested they block the door to national and labour party events, as an alternative.
Yep. It's down to those details. There's no question about whether it should happen or not, just how exactly will it happen.
Really interesting but like a.i. we don't know precisely what will happen. We can only guess a range of possibilities ranging from best to worst.
Not exactly sure what you mean by “forcing reduction in output”, but if you mean consuming less, then yes we will need to do that. Climate change will not be fixed with tinkering around the edges. It needs transformational action.
I've been waiting 6 years for transformational action from Labour, I still can't get a good rental property for a fair price. No bike shed, constant changes to car parking arrangements with other tenants, just a disaster. They talk about climate change but they don't seem to believe in it. Where is the dense housing, where is the walkable city? I still need a car to get to the laundromat.
"we are one of the richest nations in the world"
It doesn't feel like that to me.
If climate change is real, and it's caused by cow farts and 1300cc cars being driven 3 times a week, how come the government won't build affordable apartments, that way we can make better use of walking, cycling and public transport? I own a bike but I can't ride it, because my landlord doesn't let me store it anywhere. If I want a place that has a shed, I'll have to pay an extra $150 a week or more.
It's incredibly stupid that some countries will ban petrol cars by 2030, when Mazda 2 and Toyota Corolla use almost no fuel. I don't drive very often so I re-fuel every 3-4 weeks LOL
Where will the farmers work instead, if dairy farms are shut down by the government? Will farmers move into the city, live in a prison-size bedroom, in a boarding house with a dozen indians, and stack shelves at Countdown at 3am? Somehow I don't think the dairy farmers will like that.
The climate change agenda is supposed to get us cycling and catching the bus more, and living in higher density apartments, near to our workplace. But when was the last time anyone saw an apartment go up in Christchurch? Only in the CBD or nearby areas. If I live anywhere else, I must drive a 10 year old ICE car, because landlords don't provide a garage for an EV, and employers expect me to have reliable transport. I suppose I should just buy an EV that costs 3x more than a regular car, and then pay one of the other tenants to have the cable hang out of their window to reach my car? Fat chance.
How about we start local manufacturing and stop importing from China? What about a restriction on how many migrant workers can fly here on a co2 emitting plane? We could cut international flights by 20% and half the amount of work and study visas being approved. That's another way to cut our carbon emissions. Stop globalisation, stop having so many flights and stop the import of foreign products. At least reduce it.
Climate change policy just means we'll have more poverty, less taxes being paid and a worse society over-all. We won't get the utopia that the greens are promising. Show me 6 storey apartments on Riccarton Road, that have EV charge parks at no additional cost, and bike storage at no additional cost (must have power, lighting and protection from rain at all angles so my bike chain doesn't rust). If they can't do this, then I'm against "climate action" because it's a threat to my meagre existence. I live just above the poverty line and people like Rod Carr obviously have millions of dollars, so they don't even know what it's like to be part of the working poor.
Some hardware stores already ban staff from commuting on an e-scooter because of the chemicals they store in hardware stores.
What? I thought it was either YouTube Music on its own, or YouTube Music + ad free. I never saw a lite version.
