I have a baby at home and that makes it impossible to keep up with all the updates. Reading the release notes? God damn, I'm glad I have the time hit the update button once a month and then pray to god that it doesn't break anything. If it does then it'll take months before I have time to investigate.
This led me to abonden HA from the summer house already. My dad's HA has been turned off for three months too because I just can't find the time to fix it, and at home it's running but I have only one type of ZigBee things still working, other things are just broken like my script showing random pictures on the TV.
I really wish for a LTS version. I don't have those problems on my Server where I run Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.
No, I just moved here 4 years ago, first a business trip, then I met someone and asked to go on more business trips until I asked them to move me to the Korean office and I me and my now wife moved in together.
Nextcloud it just too heavy I totally agree, and everything feels slow and sluggish.
For just files I use Syncthing and couldn't be happier, it just works in the background without a central server just syncs the files between phones, PCs and laptops by itself. I set it up like 5 years ago when I had enough of Nextcloud and to be honest most of the time I forget that I have it, but I use it every day to sync my password database for KeePassXC, my music, my private and work documents between all my devices.
People leave the platform: “I don’t get why this upsets anyone, it’s his platform”.
Is exactly the opposite of what I was trying to say with:
he is not forcing you to use his platform
you can just leave, there are so many alternatives available, if you don't then you are part of the problem, giving him power and putting more money into his pockets. In fact you should have seen the writing on the wall many years ago and latest when he bought it.
Being upset about this now after he did so many worse things is just silly.
I think Thore words are not adequate to describe your or my situation.
My main language is English right now because that is what I mostly use. It's my 4th language. I was 11 when I emigrated for the first time and between then and now I had two other main languages.
I'm not sure how easy it is to get to contribute to Lemmy, they are very big and have to move slow not to break things fo very many users.
I'm part of PieFed https://join.piefed.social/ which is still very small and fast to implement changes. The developers meet in a matrix chat and we know we have a lot to fix when it comes to UX and are eager to work with people knowledgable in this field.
If you're interested and have some time over I would introduce you to the other guys.
I would go with CS. It's very easy later to switch to management with a CS background, but it's im possible to switch to CS with å management background.
How is that different to before the 1800?
