I think video is very unnecessary, audio is the most important and there are great ones which don't use the internet or even WiFi but a different radio signal like https://a.co/d/3YAxSzw
If she really can't do it without video then I'd buy a ubiquity one because they work without internet connection if you set them up like that. Then only you can access it. But they are quite expensive especially the ones with 2 way audio.
You're doing it the wrong way. What you should do is to identify the specific things you think are holding Lemmy back and discuss it in the open. That can lead to:
Other people realize it too and start thinking how to fix it
You realize your assumptions were wrong
If you just post here ' Lemmy is shit and will never be good' then that's not very productive even if we wanted to help you find a now home outside of Lemmy, we have no idea what you're looking for so we can not even give you good advise.
I think the greatest strength is that it is so compatible with other Threadyverse software like PieFed and Mbin. This brings a lot of freedom to the users.
There is a easy solution to it. Use a free and open source podcast client like AntennaPod.
This has the added benefit that you don't contribute to the destruction of podcasts by Spotify which take podcasts which are available for everyone and make them Spotify only.
