I don't want to come across as if I'm defending this, because I absolutely don't agree with anything these shit heads are doing. But to answer your question, getting rid of the Department of Education doesn't mean getting rid of public schools (at least not immediately).
Most of those are funded and run by local governments. So they won't just be closing because there's no Dept of Education.
However, this move will ultimately heavily affect public schools in the long run. Conservatives seem to hate the idea of separation of church and state - so they've been pushing forever to allow religion in schools. The only way they can do this right now is through private religious schools. Their problem is that private schools are privately funded.
Their ultimate goal is to be able to take taxpayer money away from public schools and move it to private schools. Ultimately, this will decimate many public schools.
“I think he says at the end of ’26, he’s gonna start making tons of robots, ’27 and ’28, he thinks 2028 you and I are each gonna have five robots each. They’re gonna mow our lawn and they’re gonna make us coffee and they’re gonna make our bed…and they’re gonna fix our bathroom and renovate our bathrooms — I’m telling you we are gonna have very nice bathrooms!”
It's pretty obvious what he's doing, but the media absolutely cannot help themselves in amplifying everything he says. And you can't really blame them. When a president says he's going to overturn pardons issued by past presidents, you have to report that as major news. Even if he says it and isn't serious or is just trying to keep the spotlight on him and away from something else.
Can't wait for the Supreme Court to agree that since the 22nd Amendment doesn't specify who enforces that the president can't be elected, that it means Congress has to actively pass a law saying he can't run.
That's what ultimately happened with the Colorado case.
Also how did they let that excuse get past the technical teams who should be implementing this? They added Star Link to the data center that supports the White House and then have traffic run through hard wires. This does absolutely nothing to improve spots with bad WiFi.
They panicked when they realized they sent the "fork in the road" email to controllers and quickly back pedaled. But as far as I know, they haven't freaked out and tried to rehire these people. This took a court order from a judge - and it sounds like the administration is trying to appeal it.
These people are getting paid since February 15th when they were fired. Meanwhile, many of these positions were being backfilled by air traffic controllers working overtime, most of the time not doing as well of a job as the person who was "fired" in the first place.
So to recap: Elon and Trump fired well qualified and necessary employees, continued to pay them after they left, then over paid someone else to do their job, but worse, making us all less safe and simultaneously overworking an already notoriously overworked group of ATCs who have one of the most stressful jobs in the world.
I dunno about you guys, but I'm not sure this Department of Government Efficiency is actually very efficient...
Could you imagine going back to work for a place that tried to fire you a few weeks ago? And is still actively appealing a court decision to try to fire you again?
Right, but I'm just saying this is no different from flying from Minneapolis to Denver. Someone saying "well of course ICE was gonna snatch you up, you set foot in an airport" is kind of crazy.
