I know that it's natural, and there's possibly a reason to it, psychologically speaking... but can I just say, fuck anticipatory grief. I know it's not its fault, but holy fuck it sucks to hurt so much before the actual event. And more so when it affects your loved ones so much.
Great call, and it's annoying the media outlets are by-and-large trying to make it an even bigger deal than I feel it needs to be. I understand that a few sports stars are put out, and regionally speaking it hurts some areas in some respects - but we could be fucking celebrating the fact that a fiscally responsible decision was made, and one that should still provide benefits that are needed more (like housing) compared with the cheap Olympics ripoff the Comms games are.
I hate how much Disney have churned out their TV shows. They fell into the same trap that Netflix did with the Defenders - it started out so promising only to become a bloated, overdrawn mess.
I really don't care about investing more time on the Witcher since Henry Cavill left. If he felt it was worth ditching the show because the writers were getting it wrong, then why the fuck would I bother with it either?
Meanwhile there's shows I haven't see in forever that I'd love to re-watch. Sopranos, Breaking Bad (and I haven't seen Better Call Saul yet), Daredevil and Jessica Jones... there's too many to list actually.
And yes - I'm with you on that as well about TGYH. Aussie TV can be so frustrating sometimes since they'll be on a winner only to can it for no real good reason. Chanel 7 are dickheads for buying it only to can it after what, two seasons?
I wish they'd bring back Good News Week.
God, wasn't it! For me it's one of the few shows where you can examine a LOT of it on so many different levels. The art and direction, the choice of style which in of itself is intentionally timeless. The acting was on point. The sheer chaos of some moments... I actually used it for some of my masters' thesis on exploring the use of the unreliable narrator in speculative fiction.
Good to know about Justified - I don't mind too much the idea of a "case of the week" so long as it's not its staple. I love shows that evolve in that way, rewarding longer time viewers with a payoff for the foundation/structure of the earlier part of the narrative.
Supernatural is more akin to Buffy and Angel, I think - at least the first three or so seasons Overarching bad-guy with an episodic baddie of the week kind of thing. But the further you go the more you realise the key moments interwind towards something much more. The show runner, Eric Kripke, wrote a plan for how the who story arch of the first five seasons would play out and it's easy to appreciate that kind of forward planning - even if the third (?) season was hit with the last writers' strike.
That said, yeah, it's definitely not as serious as X-Files. It has a lighter tone for the most part, with some episodes which are put together really well from a comedic perspective.
Rewatches are also great - I want to go back and watch things like Legion, as that's definitely a show that I feel would give a huge amount of benefit the second-time around. I'm also on my third run of Shorsey which I watch when doing cardio, and that's only after running through Letterkenny a secondtime.
I saw you mention Justified the other day and hadn't heard of it, but I'm going to start that soon. Looks like a really cool show, and I love the idea of a neo-western, too.
We're re-watching Supernatural. Had watched the original seasons 1-5 years ago and shat on the idea of the show continuing after the show runner was like "nope, my plan was always 5 seasons so I won't be staying on", only to turn around after the show's continued success and go "actually this is really cool I want back in." So yeah, 15 seasons at about 2-3 episodes a week is going to take us quite a while. And that's just one show. I saw the thread on Monday where you were talking about that show Justified and I was like "shit, that sounds like a cool show" so that's now on the list. Good thing that list is digital as I'd have to fell a whole forest for the parchment required to write the list out.
I just wish I had taken up yoga a lot sooner - at least now when I throw my back out the recovery isn't nearly as long as it was when I was in my 20s and barely able to get off the ground because I never lifted with my legs.
Shit, you went to the physio in your 20s? Talk about luxury hahaha.
There's something about this age where I think it's perfectly normal to think that...saying from experience. I'm six years removed from this very birthdate and still have no idea what I'm doing with my life but the current is taking me where it wants and I'm slowly but surely getting comfortable with that idea. I might snag a branch or two along the way and see if I can steer the course but it's all flowing downwards anyway. Happy birthday, though. And I hope you enjoyed that cake!
Fuck that sounds amazing. For breakfast as well... god, talk about noms.
Oh god... I remember reading something about this. I think the answer was "water". As in, if you're not sure what your body needs but it need something then drink some water. But that might be for headaches.
Fuck it. Default to whiskey. That'll fix what ails ya!
With the whole Hollywood strike going on it got me thinking - there is SO much content that if something weird were to happen whereby no more movies or TV shows were to ever be made, I'd be fine with the sheer amount of content that has been generated up to this day. Like, if some weird, I don't know, space temporal displacement happened whereby Hollywood (or hell, anyone - BBC, Australian TV, etc.) were able to make anything else then there is enough content available for a lifetime regardless.
Obviously in saying that it would mean an entire industry would be out of work permanently... so this hypothetical situation has massive economic pressures as well. But still... this strike could go on for years and I'd still be playing catch up.
So, at the start of the year my regular GP said that I "probably have chronic fatigue" and that it's likely due to my depression. But lately my depression has been okay (anxiety, okay maybe not so much but I've been under far better control all things considered). And yet the feeling has come back of being super tired, headache, with pain at the back of my neck/top of my spine.
Anyway, found someone locally who specialises in chronic fatigue. He's away on holidays as of today though, so it'll be a while before I even set up a chat with him. Still, I'm hoping maybe it can lead to a bit more than a vague diagnosis with no real plan.
I read the first part as "wedding" and thought holy fuck, what kind of wedding would result in the follow up statement. Then I read "weeding" and realised that both statements aren't connected. But if they were, holy fuck, what kind of weeding would result in the follow up statement!?
The advice you received though... that's gold, right there.
You just gotta do what you can do (he says knowing that he's taking a mental health day tomorrow following my psych session in the morning). Here's hoping you're able to get some rest and recovery in over the next couple of days.
I told Spotify to make a radio out of "Fader" by The Temper Trap and having a bit of a nostalgia hit thanks largely to a bunch of music that would have been on the radio when I used to work retail. Hearing Evermore's "It's Too Late" in particular was a pleasant surprise.
Lol... old mate uses a two-stroke no doubt. That is so damn close to the meme where the dude on the bike shoves a stick into his spokes and sends himself flying only to blame someone is.
I have a Japanese Jazz playlist that I was listening to a lot over the last week or so for this same reason. And yeah, doesn't matter if it's external or internal... sometimes you just got to try and bring the mood to a baseline yourself. The Study Lofi playlist is definitely a good vibe to tap into in these instances.
Nah, it's hooman related. But yeah, it's a paradox of a sorts. Is it better to have them go quickly or watch them slowly fade?
