Hey man, thanks for sharing. You made me feel better knowing that I'm not alone in this work hellscape.
My work day is exactly this. The main difference is I'm fully remote and I fear for my job since my last 3 jobs laid me off because I didn't want to go back into the hell hole that was in-office.
So, I dropped from a director to an IC senior manager and am constantly looking for new jobs because after about a year or so some VP or CMO gets switched out and will try and implement RTO so I try and stay ahead of it.
I honestly just want enough money to put my kids to school and retire. Then I would buy a 3D printer and spend the rest of my life tinkering.
I almost got divorced many times with my wife. I'm super lucky that I got help and am taking Ritalin along with my wife telling me that my meds are wearing off so I can re-up.
I didn't know you could do that. I'm in Taiwan and I know Steam doesn't let you make a purchase without a local credit card. So I imagine that's the case for Japan.
So a few years ago I wanted to play a Japanese version of a rhythm game that isn't available to purchase in the USA and decided to try my hand at modding my switch for this one game.
After(poorly) doing it, I wasn't able to play that game AND Nintendo bricked me. All my games on my switch that I purchased were unable to download or play anymore.
So I went and set out to mod my switch correctly.
Now if I actually wanted to give Nintendo money, they won't allow me to. So my only option from then on is to pirate.
They basically turned a potentially paying customer to a non paying customer.
Ya, they give names for the robbers. Lol. I remembered they had a guy named The Valentine bandit. Because he first robbed his first branch on Valentine's Day. Some of them get silly names like Fake Limp man.
Most robberies are very discreet. Mine was just a note and flashed a gun.
Also note to any would be robbers. You don't need a weapon. We always comply. A few bucks is not worth our lives. Also if you even show a weapon or implied you have one, you literally increase your charge from robbery to robbery with a deadly weapon which just increased your jail sentence 5 times.
I used to work at the bank and bank robbers are almost always caught. Not because they didn't get away from robbing the bank. It's because once they do it once they continue robbing banks and one day they will get caught.
We regularly get reports for bank robbers that hit a branch. They typically hit another close branch, but we lock our doors the second they pull up.
I have been jaded enough that I'm sort of numb to it now. I'm only working towards my retirement. Office gossip, dynamics, culture means nothing to me. 90% of my job is optics. The rest is real work. My only job is to try and keep my job as long as possible and nothing more.
I worked on a 6 month project. At month 5, they said they are not renewing even tho they need the position.
My team fought the VP and said if I don't continue it would be detrimental to the project.
She renews me for another 6 months and makes me fly to an off-site to present at an mbr.
The VP proceeds to cancel my contract the day I land in San Francisco. Because she doesn't want a remote worker anymore and wants this person to come in 4 days a week.
Corporate doesn't care about you. You need to be selfish because nobody will care about you otherwise.
More stable, haha. I was just randomly surfing around and my computer goes to sleep and can't wake up.
Also randomly, my computer won't go into sleep mode when I close my laptop. It works about 90% of the time, but that 10% is when I pull my laptop out of my laptop bag and my computer is on fire and fans full blast trying to cool itself. The OS came from IBM installed.
Real question. Doesn't the computer actually slow down when you have that much memory? Doesn't the CPU need to seek into a bigger vast vs a smaller memory set?
Nice job dude. How did your wife take it after they fired you for being human?
