  • Hm? If you mean why do we participate in discussions, personally my main goal is to learn (unless I get triggered by some stupidity... but I'm trying not to). Looking for details is an effective way to find differences between points of view, which means reviewing one's own, and comparing them to someone else's. Sometimes I can learn about myself, sometimes about someone else, sometimes about an actual fact. Either is fine by me. [disassembly reveals useful pathways...]

There are other uses for social media, other ways of communication. I'm not a fan of witch hunting though, or mob mentality, so that leaves either education, emotional support, or just goofing off.

This post in particular, I think only works for discussions or witch hunting, and I refuse to take part in the latter, so... 🤷

  • What surprises me, is you wouldn't accept the relative/changing definition as a valid definition itself.

Guess that could be an interesting conversation, potentially shedding some light on different worldviews... but I don't really know where to begin. Curious.

  • Is he? Did the US Government issue an order to attack Russian assets? Even Russian assets on Ukrainian soil? Even to support any Ukrainian effort to attack Russian assets?

So far it's been a "we give Ukraine some stuff and intel, and let them do the fighting while keeping a semblance of plausible deniability".

Sounds more like a direct involvement in the attack, would've been undermining the US Government.

  • If it was, and you haven't accepted the ToS as of legal age, then you might want to make a new one.

Google is getting ready to purge inactive accounts starting next year, and it wouldn't be the first time when a service purged irregular accounts many years after the fact, so... better safe than sorry.

  • I think I know what you mean, but plenty of terms have relative definitions ("behind", "bright", "x+1", "etc"... etc). If you're looking for an absolute point, you won't find one, because their meaning is the relationship itself.

Both "life" and "death" define a state relative to another. The definition of "life" is a particularly tricky one, because it includes multiple relative definitions like "growth", "reaction", "functioning", and a "reproduction" that includes both cloning and "imperfect" cloning. Being "death" the opposite, it's necessarily as relative and tricky too.

  • Tesla got some preferential loans in 2010, it paid them off by 2013. Now it benefits from buyers of any brand electric car getting subsidies... so, "kind of"?

SpaceX got government contracts for specific services... which could have been inflated or not, but didn't include Starlink (at least not officially).

This is different from direct subsidies like those given to Boeing, which also gets inflated contracts (see NASA's SLS), but in addition gets preferential tax discounts and lowered export taxes.

  • True, but KeePass has some countermeasures, like wiping the clipboard after some time, sending the password directly to a browser extension, or entering the master password on a "secure desktop" (technically not all that secure, but more secure than the lack of it).
