  • Ok... let me start by saying that I'm not trying to tell you what to do, just that I don't think those arguments are all that solid.

The topic was to coordinate in case of an attack, so you'd probably want to verify identities and avoid imposters, which Discord "kind of" does through things like its integrations with other ID services... but there's nothing like a good cryptographic signature. Discord has a "report raid" option for a reason, it isn't bulletproof.

how to set up a matrix server that is invite only with one link instead of having to invite them all one by one?

    Maybe.

A whole server, can be done, but why? A private space, or private room... I guess you still need to use a bot to invite from a link.

There are some bots out there with other interesting features though, like a "knock" option to let admins/mods know of join requests and accept/reject, or a setup where they use two rooms: one public, for everyone to join, with a bot that you can ask nicely for an invite to the private one.

Strictly speaking, all Discord features and more are possible via Matrix bots... but probably not yet available through a user friendly GUI, if that's what you mean.

    which one is more popular

Nowadays, either is a click away; whether the web UI, or some app in an app store.

  • MUCH cheaper adapters do exist. Some of them may or may not burst into flames, YMMV.

$30 is likely overpriced, but $2 is going to be way underpriced for what should be a smart adapter with some safety circuit inside... and gold plated copper connectors, not just copper plated aluminum... so pick wisely.

  • The CEOs don't need to be paid by other companies. All a competing company needs to do, is to convince some company's board members to hire a CEO with a track record that they know will tank the company... maybe through indirect lobbying, maybe by hinting they want to hire them because it's "such a valuable CEO"... and bam!

CEO ruins company, then bails on a golden parachute, and you only had to spend whatever it took to mislead the competing board.

(I've seen it done to tiny companies with as few as 20 workers, it's surprisingly easy to convince a board to hire someone who will destroy everything)

  • I had that happen to me, $0.02 overdraft + $30 overdraft fee... like WTF. Since then I've found a bank where I can block the overdraft "feature", it's the only account I ever give for payments, and only if there is no alternative.

  • Building upon that... I use a virtual prepaid credit card. I know how much the bills should be, keep slightly more than that on the card, and I can block it with a single click from the bank's mobile app when I expect no bills.
