  • I've used the NY subway before. It's the kind of thing you'd want for all cities. I've passed through Chicago and saw the trams, but didn't get to go one. They looked great at least. Most US cities I've been to have just felt like sprawl where driving is only option. Often where it seamed there was no real centre to go to anyway.

The US is so big it's amazing it doesn't have good fast rain connecting it all. A wave of rail building could do wonders. Cities without a centre would end up growing one at the rail hub. You could then de-car that centre, make it somewhere to go.

  • Those two presidential cadets are your only choices for president. Please do not kill yourself over it. I can't see how it would even be noticed by the process, let alone change it. Be just another tragedy for another family.

Again, don't kill yourself or even talk about it.

  • And how does that translate into a two party voting system? One is multiple times worse than other. What can you do so neither ends up president? Nothing. You only choice is to choose the least bad.

  • I'm very happy with Nextcloud, and not just for photo backups.

Snapd is something I'm waiting to die to be honest, so things that have it as a prerequisit repell me.

  • OK ok, I've edited to be more explicit. Though I'm sure everyone knew the interpretation I meant...

  • Seriously guys, no one saying Nextcloud?

    • The main app for photo backup.
    • Nextcloud Notes for well, notes you can also use from the desktop.
    • NC Passwords for well, passwords
    • Phonetrack to record your phone to Nextcloud Maps.
    • Deck for the Kanban.
  • Years ago, I, a brit, was in Austin Texas for 7 weeks for work. During that time I thought it would good to go see New Orleans. I was like "I'll just jump on a train and read and sleep until I'm there." This what I had done in Europe. I had my error explained. So I drove. I mean, it was kind of interesting to see the different landscapes, but it was also really boring and time consuming. Basically got there, spent a few hours, and had to turn round and drive back.

Why the hell doesn't the US have a passenger train network??

  • No, it is you don't understand. You have a "Trolley problem". https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolley_problem

You don't have the options you want to have. I'm sorry, but you don't. We have to deal with the world as it is to have any chance to make it as we want it.

  • Be certainly be good of Republicans come back from the edge. If the players are more balanced, the system can start to be adjusted to get away from being just Red vs Blue.

  • That's why the system has to change. Trump will change the system, but not the way you want at all.

  • You think Trump is less pro-genocide? Until you can change the system, you end up choosing who you think is less genocidy.

    Edit: spelling

  • That is a both sides argument. Trump is a new level of bad. If you want to have any chance of a future with a better political system, you want to keep Trump out. If you don't vote Biden, you can't complain if you get Trump.

  • I think if he tries that, the US breaks down as there is no way everyone will go with it.

Trump winning is a win for the enemies of the US and a win for the enemies of the wider free world.

Edit: Add a few words for clarity.

  • Lots of false economies that are going to cost us more long run.

  • It's a two party system. You vote Biden or get Trump. Trump has less problem with ethnic cleansing. If fact Trump is the kind that might try it in the US.

  • Oh compact was just right for me. Fast and mobile friendly and not loads of space taken by pictures.

  • You can still get to the compact interface with /.i on the end of the URL. But they are making it harder and harder to not use their terrible default interface, which is clearly focused on ad delivery not UX.

  • All these views were rampant as Brexit was all things to all people.

  • If it's only to your own servers, it is much less of an issue. Use Firefox and it will ask your permission if a site requests it.
