  • You will find this on many high end ultra fast printers. The compressor makes a lot more noise than a fan.

The Prusa MK3S+ duct is probably the best blower fan design for part cooling. The duct only barely enters the path of the exit from the blower unless the print head is on a flat surface that causes back pressure at the exit. Only then does the air get redirected through the duct in a useful way to get better coverage behind the nozzle.

I took this design and made it snap fit over the end of a blower instead of mounting it to the extruder print head. So I got to know it well.

If you know about the Reynolds number and how length and surface texture impact flow, almost all ducts and fans used in hobby printers are indeed garbage.

Water cooling is so cheap now, we should probably be using it for the extruder. I think the issue with small compressors is duty cycle. Like the ones for refrigerators is super quite but they have a low duty cycle time.

Those all have sources. There are also lots of reputable YouTubers with relevant academic credentials that have coved this, Asianometry and William C Fox are two that I recall covering the subject. I think Caspian Report did as well at one point in the last few years. This is like ultra basic surface level stuff everyone should know or severely question their sources and echo chambers if they are not made aware of this fundamental information.

  • Why is there any mystery here. They said they intend on ending their civil war and have shown no indication whatsoever that such a statement is only rhetorical or posturing. Taiwan has never tried to be independent of China. It still claims sovereignty over all of China.

If the US Confederates had retreated to Cuba and others had intervened on their behalf, while the Confederates still claimed dominion over a part of the USA, you can bet your ass the US would invade Cuba as soon as they had the opportunity. We can all decry the whole thing, but it is their conflict. If anything, we should be evacuating anyone and anything that needs to leave and capitulating without further involvement. Like if your neighbor and their spouse are arguing, stay out of it for the benefit of everyone. This is not some mate getting abused that needs help. This involves two bloody parties where all sides have done monstrous things and that needs to get resolved one way or another. Both can't claim dominion over all. The past cannot be bowdlerized for convenience or exploitation for profit of western criminal capitalist abuse. No one needs to fight or die, but a resolution must be found.

Edit: Wow Lemmy is remarkably stupid to the point of incompetent ineptitude at basic fundamental history. Like wtf am I doing here in a room with this insane nonsense.

  • Actually, after trimming the excess material top and bottom and stretching the fabric more... it is fiddley and I could certainly improve upon it, but I'm building my water cooler laptop GPU setup into my laptop bed stand and not primarily trying to make air filters. This is just a filter to go into a centrifugal fan based airbox, so I'm going with it for now. I'd rather spend time modeling and integrating some other stuff into the laptop stand like some studio monitor quality sound and better tabletop mounting brackets.

  • Trauma is a tough thing to deal with. I hope you find peace and happier times. I have to throw myself into projects and do my best to block out the thoughts. The anniversary of the crash that disabled me has been hard for the last few years. The 10 year, was the worst though. I hope your life is less impacted than being forced to lay in bed most of your days.

Other people's problems certainly do not make your own any better, but it can add perspective, like if they can do x, y, or z, than I might be able to do this other thing.

Anyways, condolences on your interpersonal loss and feelings of difficulty - from a random digital neighbor that cares to share a few words. Exercise is the easiest form of accessible endorphins and a path out of depression.

  • So sad that we went through covid and people are still so idiotic to accept working while sick as a society. Paying for one person to stay home while sick saves far more than half of a workforce making mistakes and not getting anything done for 2 weeks to a month as transmission cascades. Not to mention the additional low performance month as their home life is disrupted by additional family members getting sick, or the probability of serious complications for key individuals of a large workforce. It isn't tough, or reasonable to perpetuate such a culture; it is absolute incompetence and lackadaisical ineptitude rooted in a paranoid conservative distrust of a small minority of potential abusers. Or really it is a willingness to harm and kill others instead of creating the potential for the oppressed and abused to cause minor but still insignificant retribution across the class divide.

Run a scan to share what does and doesn't work on your machine so that others can see. Don't worry about it. This is a good thing for everyone and not some exploit. Check if others have scanned with the same hardware. Look at what kernel they are running and if it has the same problem or notes. You may see the hardware label and find other machines with the same that may or may not be working.

  • Placing privacy focused content into a user's suggested feed is likely intentional. Why would any platform actively promote content that is opposed to the company's business model. It seems rather nonsense for a place like YouTube to promote this type of content, yet they do. Perhaps that is intentional and purposeful. This kind of abstract and indirect problem solving is the kind of thing I am good at in a job if I am given objectives and time to mull over solutions.

Most humans display some kinds of paranoia. It is easy to spin privacy as a disproportionate evil because of the uncertainty of scope and motives involved. The act of suggesting a potential threat in the periphery a few times is enough to get most people to eventually engage with that content. It would be easy and effective to use this suggestive mechanism to push people off of a platform. This pattern loosely fits my experience. I bet it fits with others too. These platforms and ad companies have been hiring the best and brightest psych majors for a decade. All of that talent is used for something profitable.

  • Not true with the way models are aligned from user feedback to have confidence. It is not hard to defeat this default behavior, but models are tuned to basically never say no in this context, and doing so would be bad for the actual scientific AI alignment problem.

  • Asking any LLM a cold question implying previous conversational context is a roleplaying instruction for it to assume a character and story profile at random. It assumed literary nonsense is the context. So – makes sense.
