  • Quebec's secularism laws can be explained by looking at its history with religion, and how much religion has destroyed its society in the past.

Government secularism is a way for Quebec to ensure clerical interference in government never happens again.

Whether it should also affect individuals, and where the line between individuals and government is drawn, is a very hot topic even within Quebec.

  • Technically, mobile payment is more secure than cash and cards in terms of theft risk as you need to authenticate before using it.

The only exception is a chip & pin card with NFC and magstripe disabled and no card number or CVV printed on it.

You can't do much with modern phones once reported stolen, most of them become bricks.

  • OP is very big

  • That's right. My concern is also that LLM users may shadow skilled programmers in the short term, potentially devaluing their skills or putting some of them out of a job, at least until the LLM-built code starts shitting itself and they crawl back to actual programmers for help.

  • Vibe coders wishfully think AI could be the end product. AI is a tool, it should never be the final product nor exposed to the user.

It's a fancy autocomplete to throw ideas against, you still need to know what the fuck you're doing, and vibe coders have no clue. This means we're now concerned about a rise in vulnerable code.

  • Montreal's bike lanes generally connect somewhere within its own borough. We do have some oddities where one borough ends and the next one decides to not implement bike lanes, so the lane abruptly ends, but they are pretty rare.

Most bike lanes I've seen are long bike lanes that cross multiple boroughs and go through population centres, such as downtown.

  • Devil's advocate, but this seems logical to me. Loblaws buys products at X price, now plus Y tariff because they now have to import new stock, and logically won't want to eat the difference because they're a business.

I'm assuming they're keeping their margins the same here and just directly passing the cost of tariffs to the end consumer.

This is nothing egregious, though not benevolent. I suggest we keep our Loblaws hate for when they actually do shitty stuff, like colluding over the price of bread.

At least I'll give them points for clearly marking tariffed products with a T in a triangle so we can avoid them.

  • I'll argue that this is a cat community, not an AI discussion community.

  • There are ethical concerns with the use of AI, especially image generation.

c/dogs has a strict no AI policy, and it seems to be appreciated by our users.

  • You can change the visual name of a community, but you cannot change its slug. You would have to create a new community.
