  • Yeah, no 3rd party apps have the BOM forecasts as an option, so they're all functionally useless compared to the BOM's app, even if 3rd-party apps have a nicer UI.

  • Boost isn't one of them, it's not supposed to be working.

  • Large tech companies only join protocols like this with the aim of killing them; any Mastodon instance worth its salt should defederate from Meta as soon as they go live with it.

  • Boost for Reddit is still working for me, for some reason, even without the patch to use my own API key.

  • Unfortunately, it doesn't allow me to use my nation's weather service, so it doesn't exactly matter how good the App is. There's a choice of providers, but most of them are no-name aggregators.

  • It's not self promotion though?

  • I don't think this particular video of his is the best fit for the category, but some of the others he has on VFDs and 7-Segment Displays are really interesting and very well presented.

  • They removed "reminders" and lowercase-t "tasks" from the Calendar and replaced them with Tasks

  • I've lived in places with speed cameras all my life... if you're worried, just don't speed?

Like, I don't want to be all "don't break the law and you won't have to worry (:" but speeding is really easy to not do, especially in places where cameras are well signposted or static.

  • Revolt is probably the most similar.

  • The British Government paid British slaveowners. The British government could have made ownership of slavery illegal without paying the slaveowners, but they chose to pay the slaveowners. None of that has anything to with reparations to the enslaved people. Also worth noting that in this case, Barbadians were enslaved by the British, not the Spanish or Dutch

  • My first thought was; did Jill Stein's 2016 campaign have any real impact on the result?

Looking at this table of results implies that if all Stein voters had voted for Clinton, then maybe Clinton would have won Michigan (final EC result is still 290:248), but the contests elsewhere either weren't close enough, or didn't have enough Green voters to matter. Looking at that table, it's clear that the Libertarians had a much bigger impact.

  • Britian "paid" to free slaves by paying slaveowners, not by paying reparations. "what [you]’ve already spent" means nothing here.

  • There's a desktop firefox extension to make fandom less awful to use, "Fandom Enhance"

  • I use Firefox (i.e. not Chromium) with UBlock Origin on mobile, no issues. Also has a reader mode.

  • The Mail Plus version of the Password Manager doesn't have any option for 2FA unfortunately, only if you pay for unlimited (US$12/mo).

  • It's a 1:1 replacement for the lowest effort trash written by an un- or under-paid intern, but when companies start assuming (and they will) it can take over well-researched reporting, it'll be crud for us all.

  • The Verge seems to have moved primarily from long-ish form articles to these little "snippet" tweet-length things, and I gotta say, not a fan.
