What’s the target use case for this? It seems too small to be useful as a laptop replacement, and isn’t really mobile without cellular radios. About the only purpose I can see is replacing pagers that are still used in medical facilities.

Why is there a bear in the garage? Why is someone willing to be in such close quarters to it instead of getting rid of it? Why would you brush a bear? Like is there a bear show they’re entering it into? Why is the bear casually playing with a floor jack during the process, unless that’s just like its favorite hot wheels car or something?

I get that I do not live in a place with bears, so my experiences don’t amount to much, but all I see in this video flies in the face of all wisdom I’ve ever heard about how to interact with bears.

He kinda has to. No political career for him after this if Trump doesn’t win. Best he’ll be able to do is some appearances, but he’ll fade fast. It was a high risk high reward gamble to be Trump’s running mate. Hopefully won’t pay off for him.

It’s a bit hyperbolic to say he’s on the verge of winning. He won the GOP primary, that’s it. No reason to assume he’s going to win the general in November presented in the article. It’s a shame to see the GOP incumbent get primaried, he worked hard to demonstrate that there was no fuckery, and called out people that made false claims. This does call out that AZ is no longer democrats vs republicans, it’s now democrats vs magas. Maybe it’s that way in other states too, but my attention is local.

The thing that keeps trump out of jail is the plausible deniability that he was involved or at fault. There’s probably enough evidence against him, but not enough that even corrupt judges can’t look the other way. And he can just appeal to he gets a judge corrupt enough. So investigators have to handle this like any other criminal organization by starting at the little guys and making deals with them to turn on the person above them, then get them to turn in the people pulling their strings, and on and on until you can get enough people willing to testify in court that trump was in fact part of it. I say part because I don’t credit him to be smart enough to be at the top of this. He’s somebody’s useful idiot.

Anything with Ender after the first book is terrible. But the series that sticks with the happenings on earth after Enders Game is pretty good. I especially like the book that has Bean from a child through battle school.

This implies he’s conniving. I don’t think he’s mentally fit enough anymore. Behind closed doors he worries about what will happen if he loses and they tell him, “you don’t need the votes, we’ll fix it if you don’t get them” and he’s just not with it enough to not brag about how smart and great he is. He lets things slip all the time. So now he’s made speeches saying people won’t have to vote, they’re going to fix it for him, etc. His team is likely freaking out that he keeps slipping, but it’s mixed in with so much bullshit rambling that it’s easy to play off. We absolutely need to be prepared for fuckery this fall.

Totally tracks. I first experienced these in Chicago, ie “the Windy City”. Every business has either these vestibules or a rotating turnstile type door. I didn’t get why until I came to a place without one and every time the door opened freezing cold air blasted in.

The main issue is that the NHSTA requires a backup camera, which requires a screen. Since they have to make room for that screen, manufacturers now want to make it a premium thing they can use to justify up charging.

I don’t see a solution to this until someone actually tries to make things cheap again and small screens become the trend.

Southwest has been shown to have the shortest turnaround time of all the airlines due to open seating. IIRC when other airlines were failing and merging, Southwest stayed independent and even profitable. This is just another example of short term gain being prioritized over long term strategy.

Dem Governor, his seat is filled by her appointment. She’s been pretty great on not taking GOP shit from the state legislature, so I don’t expect any “concession” from her to try to appease anyone. She knows the GOP only takes and never gives those.

Before mice had lasers this could be done with a piece of clear tape. IT guys got real tired of the number of “broken mouse” calls from our department.

Maybe it helps to know that it can’t perfectly capture your voice. It can get close enough no human can tell the difference, but it’s still not perfect. First of all it has a sampling rate. To make this more understandable let’s think of a sample rate of 1 sample per second. Think of two speakers playing at the same time. One is playing your favorite song, the other is playing the exact note of that some for one second each and only changing notes every second. It’s going to somewhat mimic your song, but it’s going to be terrible. Now imagine that second speaker makes 4 samples every second, now it’s playing your song a quarter of a second at a time. Sounds a lot more like your song, but in the same way stop motion looks a lot like movement but isn’t right. Note up that sample rate to 100s or thousands of samples a second, now you’re getting to the point you can’t tell the difference, but it still can’t be perfect, because it’s still based on a sample rate.

If you can grok pictures from pixels, you can picture the same thing. If you averaged a picture out to one giant pixel, it’s unrecognizable, 4,8,16 pixels, maybe a simple icon starts to approximate into something recognizable. That little icon in your browser tab is usually 32 x 32 pixels. 1024 pixels total, and we barely consider that an image. It’s all about pixel count (sample rate). When you zoom in, you find that it’s not perfect, you always get to the point of individual pixels, unlike optical zoom where you can zoom almost indefinitely as long as you can collect enough light.

It was very experimental, that’s really the reason Sony went with it and it was at the genesis of multi threaded processing, so the jury was still out on which way things would go.

Your description of it is a little wrong though, it wasn’t multiple CPUs, at least not gore would be traditionally thought. It was a single dual core CPU, with 6 “supporting cores” so not full on CPUs. Kind of like an early stab at octocore processors when dual core was becoming popular and quad core was still being developed.

I remember that the ability to boot Linux was a big deal too and a university racked 8 PS3s together into basically a 64 core super computer. I’m actually sad that didn’t go further, the raw computing power was there, we just didn’t really know what to do with it besides experiment.

Honestly I think someone had a major breakthrough in multi-core single-unit processors shortly after the PS3 launch that killed this. Cell was just a more expensive way to get true multi threaded processing and a couple years later it was cheaper to buy a 32 core processor.

Maybe in a different timeline we’re all running Cell processors in our daily lives.

I’m not even that tall and my height causes issues. People love tall until you try to fit in an airline seat, regular sized car, fit on a bicycle, or buy clothes that don’t need to be custom tailored. Not to mention how often I hit my head on things. And finally it kind of sucks that people are almost always initially intimidated by me based on size, hard to get part that first impression.

Further, if you drop something small, like a screw, set the flashlight on the floor. This will make all the small things cast long shadows and stand out way more.
