  • Pretty sure it’s powering on the screen that does it. Even when sitting on a table I can’t hot spot till I pick up the phone, the movement of which powers on the screen. I thought it was getting a Face ID that did it, but if you’re saying you don’t have to unlock then it’s possible it’s wanting just enough interaction to know the connection is intentional so you don’t accidentally use up your data cap.

  • The scam is old AF, it’s just new targets. If you’ve tried to sell a car in the last 20 years, you’ve dealt with someone trying to pull it. Or rent a room or house, there’s a reason Airbnb is popular with owners, even for long term situations.

  • It’s kinda part of the job. Several times in my career I’ve put in months of effort on projects that then get canned for various reasons. One of them was 100% complete. No real big deal, it’s still a good billet on my resume.

  • I worked for a big commercial real estate company years ago. Think buying and selling whole apartment complexes. We adopted scrum in our IT department, then saw the sales support team start doing it. Each sale was treated like an epic and each task a story. Actually worked pretty well for them.

  • Kona, ID4, I think the BMW is the i3, mini se, I can’t remember the name of the Fiat, Bolt.

They are there, Tesla just made everyone think they needed 300+ miles of range. If you can get by with 50-75 miles of around range, and most people can, you can grab one of these used for a good price. The problem is they didn’t sell well, so they had very short runs.

  • I fear for the day Hollywood decides to remake Labyrinth. Amazing movie with some of the greatest puppetry ever. Today it would probably be a 3D CGI crapfest. Also who could ever replace Bowie? Somehow I think they’d get Will Smith in there.

  • Yesterday I would have argued that with the rails framework Ruby is a great way to rapidly develop a scalable application. Today I started having an intermittent failure in one of my API instances and when searching about it the only thing I could find was one obscure blogpost that boiled down to “yeah sometimes Ruby Ave active record just screws up the character set off a string” exact same string, different results. Excuse me Ruby? How the fuck can you sometimes screw up a character set? There should be no sometimes to any thing here.

  • If the environment is game rich, I could do ok. But if we’re talking animals that are skittish and I can’t get close to, I’d starve. Could probably use the shaft as part of a bow drill to start a fire, so I’d have that going for me.

  • Even if he decided it was a good deal, if he cares about the legacy of his past decisions at least seeming legitimate, he has to turn it down. We all know he’s for sale, but he loses deniability if he straight up sells out.

  • Unspecified in the article. Just said she returned from active duty to find someone living in her home. But any job that keeps you away from home for long periods of time could suffer the same. Even if you have people checking on your place, what are they going to do differently other than know sooner?
