  • I do all my gaming on my Steam Deck and I haven't run into anything that didn't work – even "unverified" games. But I also eg. don't play any multiplayer games so I don't have troubles with anti-cheat systems which are apparently still a big pain point for Linux gaming and might be one reason for your bad experiences

  • From a historical perspective Finland is essentially "Alabama: the country", and for example there's a bunch of rare genetic diseases that are much more common in people with Finnish heritage. Population has always been pretty sparse so it's not much of a surprise that people, err… "kept it in the family" so to speak – and it's not exactly uncommon even nowadays in some of the more rural areas (ie. pretty much the majority of the country 😅 )

  • Exactly so. The successful companies he's involved in are largely successful despite him, not because of him

  • At least I'm not a judgemental twat to random people on the internet , so I guess I have that going for me. Just because I didn't think to connect Musk's PayPal history with this move doesn't mean I don't know about it, you know?

Why is it always the kbin users, I swear

  • Yeah I recall it somehow being better designed than Rosetta but I can't dig up where I read about this

  • American culture around work honestly seems completely fucking nuts.

  • It's sort of how I try to view my past fuckups: I can't change the past by feeling like an idiot for making some mistake, but I can try to learn to not make the same mistakes again (and instead make new and exciting mistakes) and learn to "forgive myself" in a sense.

Fuckups are inevitable parts of life, and beating myself up over mistakes won't stop me from making new ones. I do need to learn from them when I make them, so I might as well do it in a way that's less unpleasant and doesn't require carrying around an ever-growing pile of memories labeled "I'm an idiot for doing […]"

  • Doesn't Microsoft have something similar to Apple's Rosetta 2 JIT x86 -> ARM code translation kajigger? I could swear I've seen something like that mentioned

Edit: not sure whether it was WOW64 that I read about, that seems to only work for running 32 bit intel code on ARM (although I have no idea if that's actually a problem or not when running modern Windows binaries, the last Windows I ran was Vista)

  • I absolutely did not read it, the headline tells me enough and I can think of several more pleasurable activities than reading an article about Musk, such as shoving red hot needles under my fingernails

  • Isn't that like actual verified fact thought? Just looking at the growth (or lack thereof) of wages vs. executive compensation will tell you that money is getting increasingly concentrated in the hands of a smaller group of people.

You can thank eg. that fucking sociopath Thatcher and the useful idiot Reagan.

  • Well no duh, but it's not like the context in which that production happens – so eg. the status of the workers in relation to the "organization" doing the producing, or let alone how unemployement is dealt with – is the same.

  • I fucking detest "data driven business". I've written a few rants on it on Lemmy, having been at one point called in to fix egregiously idiotic examples of how eg. KPIs can be defined so badly and calculated so wrong that they don't mean anything, like literally reading goat guts to determine how the service was doing would have given results exactly as close to reality as those KPIs (if not more.)

The vast majority of "data driven business" and "business intelligence" (the practitioners of which are somehow never fucking intelligent) stuff is just numerology but for MBAs.

  • That's the lie of capitalism: "you can be anything you want! Just as long as what you want can be easily monetized and turned into a product, otherwise you're welcome to die in a ditch you leech."

  • Well, it's not like that's exactly an outlandishly improbable guess though?

  • Well, think of it so that you spent $150 on a class on media literacy and a crash course on the dangers of unethical business practices.

  • Ha, I didn't even think of the PayPal connection, but now that you mention it, he's exactly the sort of petty manchild that that sounds plausible. He might figure that it'd be a nice double whammy: he can finally get even with those fucks at PayPal who didn't see how brilliant he is, and it'd help keep Twitter afloat so he can feel like he's not a complete failure.

    impregnating every woman

Inseminating; the majority of Musk's spawn was conceived with IVF. Musk does not fuck
